BOX OFFICE: FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM Eyes $200 Million Global Debut This Weekend
While it won't come close to the last few Harry Potter movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them should still have quite a stellar debut at the global box office this coming weekend...
Doctor Strange has been able to enjoy being the #1 movie in the world for the past few weeks, but that will change this weekend when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is released. Directed by David Yates and written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the movie is currently tracking for a debut in North America somewhere between $70 million and $80 million.
Projections also point to the highly anticipated prequel earning around $200 million globally this weekend, something which is helped by the fact that it's being release everywhere at pretty much the same time. With a budget of $180 million, that means Fantastic Beasts will be off to a very good start.
With numbers like these, it's now easy to see why Warner Bros. has already announced an additional five instalments of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Johnny Depp's casting certainly doesn't seem to have hurt the movie too much, and that's very lucky considering the fact he'll play a key role in the series!
