Former FANTASTIC BEASTS Star Johnny Depp Denied Appeal Over "Wife-Beater" Libel Case In The U.K.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp recently lost a court battle against The Sun newspaper after they branded the actor a "wife-beater," and the ex-Fantastic Beasts star has now lost his appeal!

Unfortunately for Johnny Depp, Judge Andrew Nicol has ruled against the actor's attempt to appeal his failed libel case against The Sun newspaper. The former Fantastic Beasts star went to court to battle their claim that he's a "wife-beater" following a series of allegations made by ex-wife Amber Heard.

The original 2018 article was headlined "Gone Potty: How Can J.K. Rowling Be 'Genuinely Happy' Casting Wife-Beater Johnny Depp in the New Fantastic Beasts Film?" In the U.K., it was up to The Sun to prove that what they wrote was true, and given the evidence put forward against the actor, the decision made was that there was no way of proving Depp isn't a "wife-beater."

The odds were always stacked against Depp, especially as he conceded that he often lost control due to alcohol and drugs during his marriage to Heard.

The reason Nicol denied Depp's appeal is because he determined that the actor didn't have a "reasonable prospect of success." Now, Depp must pay £628,000 (around $840,000) in legal costs to The Sun, and while he can bring his grievances to the Court of Appeals, it seems unlikely he'll succeed.

Needless to say, this is another blow for Depp after he was recently given no other choice than to step down from the role of Gellert Grindelwald in Warner Bros.'s Fantastic Beasts franchise.

''Gone Potty: How Can J.K. Rowling Be 'Genuinely Happy' Casting Wife-Beater Johnny Depp in the New Fantastic Beasts Film?''

Never actually saw the whole title, but now that I have I gotta say that is an unnecessarily provoking title. No wonder Depp wanted to go against it.

And what does that judge ruling even mean? Success at what? Not being a wife-beater?

I find “cancel culture” a special kind of ridiculousness these days.

Denying a man's appeal is [frick]ing bonkers.

Honestly Depp may have lost the court case but in the grand scheme it doesn't matter compared to the fact he's won public opinion.

I'd much rather be in Depp's position than in Heard's right now in terms of how many people are on my side.

@Nightwing1015 - does it matter though? The right people are on Heard's side. She didn't have to suffer any consequences while Depp lost a lawsuit and his job.

I'm sure he'll be back with a new franchise in a few years (after all Hollywood has worked steadily with people like Sean Penn and Michael Fassbender, who beat their partners) but I do think Heard is in the better position now.

Plus she has the #metoo crowd behind her.

@Blergh - She will suffer consequences once every film of hers bombs because everyone hates her. Give it time.

Plus, let's be real what matters more, a few studio executives on your side or the vast majority of the public. Can you imagine what it's like getting the level of harrasment she must be getting? She is definitely getting some karma.

@Nightwing1015 - You do remember he admitting in court to giving drugs to a minor; his decision to going to court was never going to work, since once he admitting to that bad act he would lose the cost part and at best get a nominal award of a £1 at best since his character was shot.

I don't understand why his lawyers would even allow him to pursue this in the first place. There is clear evidence that he was abusive on at least one occasion. Who knows how many or how few times it happened, but calling him a wife beater is accurate in at least one instance. There's no way he could successfully sue for libel with that being the case. His lawyers had to have known that. Now where is he?

Before, he was just accused of abusing his wife, now there's a legal ruling on the books (which will probably affect his career going forward) and he also has to pay nearly a million dollars. He should have just left it alone.

wow, does it hurt your fingers to say he is?

Depp has beat her, that's all that matters here.
Her abuse towards him was never in question or needed for the case, it wouldn't have made the case.

Depp will be back in a few years, don't worry about him.
Right now Heard's abuse towards him should be more of a focus, same fate for both abusers I say.
