GREEN LANTERN CORPS Delayed By Warner Bros.; GODZILLA 2 And GODZILLA VS. KONG Get New Release Dates

WB has shaken up their release schedule for several 2018 - 2020 movies, and the highly anticipated films listed above are among the casualties! Hit the jump for details on how much longer you'll be waiting

As if it wasn't already bad enough that Green Lantern is unlikely to appear in either of Zack Snyder's Justice League movies, it has now been revealed that we'll have to wait even longer to see his next solo outing (which may or may not feature a team-up between two or three human Corps members). Originally set to open on June 19th, 2020, we'll now be waiting until July 24th, that same year. That's not a massive delay, but let's face it, an extra month is akin to torture for us comic fans!

With that new date, Green Lantern Corps will open just two weeks after a currently untitled release from Marvel Studios. That's a bold move by Warner Bros., and one they may regret depending on how big the release ends up being. The studio has also confirmed that a currently untitled event film has been pencilled in for December 25th, 2018, and that pits it against a live-action Disney movie, and both Han Solo and the animated Spider-Man feature which open in the weeks leading to that.

Finally, they've also confirmed that Godzilla 2 has now moved from June 8th to March 22nd, 2019, while the planned crossover Godzilla vs. Kong has been dated for May 29th, 2020. Moving the former is a pretty smart move, especially as it will no longer go head to head with Transformers 6. As of right now, Godzila vs. Kong has that date all to itself, though a Marvel movie opens earlier the same month.

These changes aren't bad. Just minor movements to make room for other event films. Bring it on!

Meanwhile I'm hoping Apocalypse's Tomatometer rises to something above 60 so that it's not rated lower than The Last Stand by any measure.

@Yaf - Wolverine was rated lower. I think it was around the 30's-40's.

@MikeZ - The Wolverine was 70%. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was 38%

@Kr08 -

The thing is... whatever Green Lantern does, thats a terrible release date. It should have been delayed until August or September as with it being 2 weeks away from the Untitled Marvel Studios Film on July 10, 2020 - its going to have heavy competition.

Especially given the timeline matches up with the idea that the untitled movie will be GOTG3 (Confirmed for 2020) or a sequel to the Spider-man movie out next year.

I really dont get at this stage why Warner Bros are having their DC films so close to Marvel films, its not beneficial in any way and its just going to cause the two to be compared even more closely.

In essence, this news practically confirms that May 1st 2020 will be the release of Guardians Of The Galaxy 3.

Warner Bros has heard about this and decided to delay the release of Green Lantern to ensure it is not competiting against another cosmic film.

@MikeZ - Yeah but I honestly cannot fathom this movie being shit. I can fathom it being average, but not shit. Like, really Singer? Who slips up on the fourth movie they direct? Like third, yeah, sure - makes sense. The fourth? The [frick]?

@Kr08 - Four Avengers got movies...why the hell does the whole JL need solo movies right now? Why can't some just appear in someone else's solo movie like Hawkeye and Black Widow did! GL and Cyborg could appear in either Aquaman or Flash's movie! the DCEU already has a bad track record of producing quality stuff so why not just promote these heroes at a later time like Spidey and BP!

Don't really care about Green Lantern Corps, is there anyone who does?
WB is better using that money to tighten up the next 2 films.
