We got news of a Green Lantern Corps Movie heading our way. Now this is old news but I want to talk about why this is great news.

So what do we know so far. David Goyer and Justin Rhodes are going to working on the project.
Geoff Johns who is basically the DC Version of Marvels Kevin Feigi is overseeing everything and all the movies continuity and direction of the DC Cinematic Universe. This is important because not only did Geoff Johns create several green lanterns he also wrote great stories like Blackest Night, and Infinite Crisis. I refuse to believe he’ll give us another Green Lantern Movie Like the one we got. Which I do not fault Ryan Reynolds at all. Now I know that Geoff Johns is credited in the Green Lantern Movie but he’s not listed as a Director, Producer, or Writer, and from what I know had very little to do with the project. I could be wrong.

The movie will be seemingly called Green Lantern Corp focusing on two Lanterns of Earth Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and will most likely be space bound or at least take place heavily off of earth. It’s reported there looking for a Lethal Weapon Esc style movie which to me sounds great as the characters have two similar yet very different personalities. Now I wan’t to focus on two things, the Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart and the ones we are not seeing just yet, and finally how if the Green Lantern Corps movie is successful can drastically extend and benefit the DC Universe.

First off let’s talk about the Lanterns themselves, we’re getting two of the many green lanterns of Earth. Before we jump into those two I want to real quick go over some of the lanterns were not getting introduced to or at least aren’t the main focus. Who knows what characters might cameo or appear down the line. So some of the lanterns that won’t be the focus you have:

Simon Baz one of the newest Green Lantern of Earth.
  • Lebanese American
  • Automotive Enginere
  • Street racing problem
  • Lost his Job
  • Stole a car unknowingly with a bomb that ended up getting him framed for terrorism
  • While being questioned a fuzed ring of HalJordan and Sinestro both presumed dead finds it’s way to Simon Baz bringing him into the Green Lantern fold.
  • Constructs and Special Abilities: Automotive based or tool based constructs. Ability to heal stronger then most Green Lanterns and sometimes Blue lanterns.

Jessica Cruz the newest and First Female Green Lantern of Earth.
  • Witnessed her friends being murdered and escaped.
  • Shut herself into seclusion for years.
  • Suffers from High Anxiety.
  • Was chosen against her will by a Power Ring from Harold Jordan of an Alternate Earth-3.
  • This character and her issues with Anxiety could be a really relatable character to introduce into the movie verse.

Guy Gardner the Second Human Green Lantern meant to be Hal Jordans backup.
  • Was abused by His father as a child.
  • Became a social worker for prison inmates.
  • Struggles with his Anger and Aggression.
  • Eventually became a Red Lantern.
  • Also Part Vuldarian.
  • Constructs and Special Abilities: He’s most known for brutal strength specially after his latent Vuldarian Abilities.
  • He’s kind of a jerk.

Kyle Rayner who was meant to take over for Hal Jordan after he went mad.
  • Struggling Graphic Artist.
  • Mexican and Irish decent.
  • His young life was spent on the run as his Father was a Black Ops agent.
  • Kyle was meant to be a random guy with unrealized heroic potential that became the new Green Lantern by sheer chance. Making him extremely relatable.
  • His Ring is a reforged discarded ring of Hal Jordan during a time that Hal Jordan had lost it and destroyed the Lantern Cor and so much more.
  • Constructs and Special Abilities: Has the most creative and complicated Constructs of all the lanterns, was the only lantern to ever hold all of the rings and live and is currently a White Lantern of Life making him the most Powerful Singular Lantern being able to wield all 7 of the Lantern Cors abilities.
  • I personally really relate to this character and enjoy this character and hope he’s introduced in the future.

Finally We have the 2 Leads.

John Stewart was meant to be Guy Gardners temp and Hal Jordan did not agree.
  • Architect
  • US Marine Veteran, skilled tactician, expert in hand to hand combat and various weapons mostly long range.
  • Thick headed and has trouble with authority.
  • First African American Super Hero for DC. and honestly I feel he can be DC’s next Black Panther, Now not to say that Cyborg is not going to play out well. John Stewart is jus more the Black Panther archetype, serious, badass, seasoned, Cyborg has always been young brash and funny.
  • Constructs and Special Abilities: He uses very military type constructs including snipers and vehicles
  •  but also have an immense will power. Will is the life force of the Green Lantern Corps and it is said that John Stewart poses more Will Power then the ring can handle and his constructs are said to be the strongest in the lantern corps, never hallowed out.

Hal Jordan also a Military Man as an Air Force Pilot.
  • Similar to John Stewart he has issues with authority however instead of being a serious and stubborn he’s a crack jokes don’t care stubborn.
  • Hal Jordan is the first human green lantern if you exclude Alan Scott from the Golden Age of comics and I say this because the Character of Green Lantern was largely different with Alan Scott’s compared to present day Green Lanterns.
  • He’s been though a lot.
  • He’s Died'ish many times.
  • Was possessed by the entity of Fear Parallax.
  • Destroyed the entire Lantern Corp.
  • Has saved the entire Lantern Corp.
  • He’s had his ups and downs.
  • Constructs and Special abilities: Hal Jordan is one of the most Powerful Lanterns and his constructs tend to be military or tool based. He uses planes and weapons very often.

These characters could definitely give us a Lethal Weapon esc type space movie. As they are both powerful, but heads with each other and they both hate authority and have opposite personalities. Side note: I love how only the Lanterns have no fear back sassing Batman when some of the most powerful characters in the DC universe are scared shitless to try that.

Now the Second point I wanted to talk about is why is this so great for the future of DC.

Giving us this movie does 2 big things, other then trying to redeem itself from it’s predecessor and not giving us another origin story. I'm sure we'll see a peak at origins for the two but not have it drive the entire plot. It opens our mind that there is an entire police force out there called the Lantern Corps and it’s not just one person. it also expands the universe with the other lantern corps and even opens the door for future plot lines into space. Second you have the door open for a new big baddy after Darkseid. I’ll get into it more in another video but if you haven’t read Blackest Night by Geoff Johns you should. I think after our Justice League faces Darkseid I really believe the Blackest Night storyline could be the next step. Anyway Side note I really hope we get to see some of our favorite lanterns like Sinestro green or yellow, kilowag, tomare, stel he just looks bad ass, kyle rayner, Jessica Cruz and so many more. Who do you guys want to see. What do you think the plot should be and who should Hal Jordan and John Stewart go up against. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Also who do you want casted as these characters. Really the only Character that might be casted is the onslaught of Armie Hammer trolling us with a Hal Jordan casting. I’d love to see  Idris Elba to come to the DC Side and play John Stewart as I’m sure Thor Ragnorok is the last time we’ll see HeimDall,  But I’d love to see your fan casts.

Please, no Lethal Weapon movie. Green Lantern is much more than that. Give it its own spin. The series has the potential to rival Star Wars. Don't downgrade it to a B-Level action flick.
