Warner Bros. Television has announced this morning that 2x Primetime Emmy-nominee Finn Wittrock (American Horror StoryRatched) has been cast in the lead role of Guy Gardner in HBO Max's upcoming Green Lantern live-action series.

He'll be one of many Green Lanterns to appear in the series, with the streamer describing his character as "a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable."

The show's official synopsis reads, "Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They'll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes."

With a production start date on the second season of Netflix's Ratched yet-to-be-determined, executive producer Greg Berlanti was able to reach out to Ryan Murphy, who agreed to allow Wittrock to prioritize Green Lantern, which is expected to begin filming later this year.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that casting for Alan Scott is also expected to be announced shortly, possibly even before the end of business today. So, hang tight as Berlanti slowly but surely starts to unravel the mysteries of the most expensive DC series he's ever produced.

In addition to Berlanti, both Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO Batman Movie; Dark Shadows) and Marc Guggenheim (Arrow; Green Lantern [2011]) are attached as writers.

@PC04 - Yes, but hopefully he gets a little thick. Guy always comes off a jock to me.

Also...I was sure after yesterday Josh was gonna get some free clicks off of the Invincible finally with everyone breakin the mode and singing it's praises. Man Grayson has been getting the McGinnis treatment this season, the hits keep comin and the don't stop coming.

@Battabing - If he looks the part they can fix the rest I guess. The almighty demographic generally wins.
