There's still some power in Grayskull!

After going through several studios, directors and re-writes, Netflix was all set to develop a live-action Masters of the Universe movie early last year, but we recently learned that the latest attempt to adapt the classic '80s animated series had also fallen by the wayside.

However, it seems there's still hope for He-Man, Skeletor and the warriors of Eternia.

According to Variety, Amazon/MGM Studios are in "serious talks" to acquire the project, with the same creative team attached. West Side Story actor Kyle Allen is still set to play Prince Adam/He-Man, replacing the previously cast Noah Centineo (Black Adam), who parted ways with the film last year.

The Nee Brothers (The Lost City) are reportedly still on board to direct from a screenplay they co-wrote with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe David Callaham. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce, along with DeVon Franklin.

There have been several different takes on the original premise across multiple scripts since plans for a live-action adaptation were first announced, but last we heard, the story will focus on "an orphan named Adam, who discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land and must quickly learn of his power in order to save his home from the evil Skeletor."

Netflix is said to have spent almost $30 million in development costs over two years working on the project, before deciding to walk away when the budget, originally set for more than $200 million, could not be meaningfully reduced. The Amazon talks are said to be "tenuous," but should things progress, new deals with the Nees will need to be ironed out for a script polish and to direct. A "significant theatrical release" is also being sought.

What do you make of this news? Can you see Allen as the muscle-bound hero? Drop us a comment down below, and have a look at the trailer for the '80s live-action adaptation starring Dolph Lundgren.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe takes place on Eternia, a planet of magic, myth and fantasy. Its lead character is Prince Adam, the young son of Eternia's rulers, King Randor and Queen Marlena. Whenever Prince Adam holds the Sword of Power aloft and proclaims "By the Power of Grayskull! I have the power!” he is endowed with "fabulous secret powers" and transformed into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe. Together with his close allies, Battle Cat (who undergoes a similar transformation from being Adam's cowardly pet tiger Cringer), The Sorceress, Teela, Man-At-Arms and Orko, He-Man uses his powers to defend Eternia from the evil forces of Skeletor. Skeletor's main goal is to conquer the mysterious fortress of Castle Grayskull, from which He-Man draws his powers. If successful, Skeletor would have enough power to rule all of Eternia and possibly the entire universe

Will we finally get a he man thing that's actually about he man?

@Origame - you mean you don't want He/Him/Them/They-Man

@ChocolateMousse - don't you remember revelations, where it became about teela b!tching to Adam's parents that he man kept a secret...right after they learned their son died?

@Origame - I know. She would have pegged him is he was still alive

@Origame - if the show was called 'He-Man and the Master of the Universe' then I'd say you right. Revelation was only called 'Masters of the Universe', so it allowed itself to be about anyone. Teela included

@bkmeijer1 - have you seen the trailers? He man was all over it, then it was revealed all that footage was from the first episode and he died.

Besides, the movie also took he man out of the title but he was still front and center.

@Origame - think it's not that weird that a show only uses footage from the first episode in a trailer. Especially if the rest would be a major spoiler.

And what a movie seperate from the show does is not of influence on the show. Those are two entirely seperate things.

@bkmeijer1 - the spoiler being it's not about he man.

Everything about how this show was presented told fans he man was there front and center. All they had to do was be upfront this was a teela show. It's not like that would automatically spoil he man dies.

@Origame - I rewatched both the teaser and trailer, and I'll admit the teaser does put the focus on He-Man. The trailer however is a different story. That puts the spotlight on Teela and the rest. So they were upfront about it being a Masters show

@bkmeijer1 - I literally rewatched the trailer, and while they do feature teela plenty, you see he man there constantly with the spotlight clearly on him. At best they're presented as co leads.

You even have people in the comments saying this isn't the show they were promised.

@Origame - it is also clearly on him, but also very much on the rest. I feel like I got the show that was promised

Why not Alan Ritchson? He is the most He-Man looking actor in Hollywood

@Cdznuts - then the Rock as Skeletor.

@Cdznuts - I agree, in fact, I think Adam should be scrawny because it’s quite obvious that Adam is He-Man. It should be like Captain America with the transformation happening when he raises the sword and changes in a brilliant white light. Alan is perfect for He-Man, but we need someone that looks like him but is normal size to play Adam.

As A He-Man fan I think I can speak for the fandom and say F U to this pile of crap. Either do the actual He-Man story or GTFO of here with your stupid-ass ideas. We are gonna have a field day mocking this and laughing our asses off as it burns to the ground in failure. It could be a ton of fun actually LMAO
