Hot on the heels of this years Comic Con are Marvel and DC biggest films Green Lantern and Thor. The barrage of news have fans immensely excited. However, there are other comic book companies out there besides the big two and not everything has to be super heroic. Comic Con is the fortress of solitude for many comic book creators, fans, and Hollywood actors. Among the top comic book giants is Image Comics. They have recently revealed that their acclaimed series "Walking Dead" by Robert Kirkman, will make a Television debut.
Now Deadline Hollywood reveals that Image's comics series "Chew" will join "Walking Dead" on AMC.
According to Deadline Hollywood:
"Circle of Confusion, which is working on its first TV series, AMC’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, is putting together another TV series project based on a comic book, John Layman and Rob Guillory’s Chew. Stephen Hopkins has come on board to direct and executive produce the project, which is in the process of locking in a writer. Chew tells the darkly comic story of federal agent Tony Chu, a “cibopath” able to get psychic impression from the things he eats who is assigned to the most usual and bizarre crimes."
It may seem like a strange idea on the theory of food, however if you are a follower or have read the volumes for "Chew" then you will understand how cool this noir/comedic story really is.
Stephen Hopkins is responsible for the popular "24" show on Fox.
I am extremely excited that Image Comics is considering applying more of their stories to Hollywood. At least we will not have an overcrowded superhero frenzy in the future. Marvel and DC can take care of that while Image can do the unique aspects of comics. I am still waiting for an "Invincible" film though by Robert Kirkman.
