SCREAM VI Synopsis Reveals Franchise's New "Final Girl" And The Number Of Ghostface Killers We'll See

A newly released synopsis for Scream VI sheds more light on the upcoming sequel, revealing the franchise's next "final girl" and teasing how many Ghostface killers we can expect to see haunt New York.

UPDATE: Paramount has reached out to let us know the synopsis from Alamo is, in fact, fan-made. The version highlighted in red below is currently the only officially released version.

Scream VI is finally going to move the franchise out of the suburbs and into a deadly new locale in the form of New York City. That's bound to have a huge impact on how Ghostface goes about his business, and a newly revealed synopsis for the movie (via FearHQ.com) reveals more details about plans for this next chapter.

Based on what we learn here, Jenna Ortega's Tara looks set to be the Scream franchise's new "final girl," while Sam Carpenter is going to suit up as Ghostface, though only to pretend she's the killer.

We have a feeling that won't end well.

It's also confirmed that there will be a total of three Ghostface killers in Scream VI, something we're sure will only increase speculation about who now wields the killer's knife.

"As the survivors of the recent attack in Woodsboro travel to New York City for college, Tara, our final girl, begins to experience manic psychological breakdowns while seeing the ghosts of past killers," it reads. "Meanwhile, her sister, Sam, attempts to manipulate her by pretending to be Ghostface."

"But when their plan goes wrong, three new masked killers appear on the scene, leaving the question of who will survive and who will be the final victim left to be answered."

Ever since it was revealed that Sam is Billy Loomis' daughter, countless theories have suggested she will follow in his footsteps, and while she initially does so to help Tara overcome her manic psychological breakdowns, that may well take her down a dark path. As for those ghosts, we're guessing we can expect them to deliver some big cameos in the movie.

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter in Scream VI.

Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin), Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks-Martin), Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter), Hayden Panettiere (Kirby Reed), and Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett return to direct the action after 2022's Scream proved to be a critical and commercial hit, while the screenplay was penned by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Scream VI is set to be released in theaters on March 10.

So if Sam is Billy's daughter, and Tara is Sam's sister. There is a superfluous connection. I think we got the killer. Gottem, gottem!

One of the killers better just be some carzy New York City psycho who happens to catch on and start killing the others.

@Origame - Thankfully, one of Urban Dictionary's definitions has my back.

"Crazy, but to a greater extent. Came from a typo."

I think a great ending for a Scream film, maybe the final in the series (if we ever get there), would be Ghostface winning and there not be a "final girl". Maybe not even reveal the identity, just allude to it and keep the audience wondering.

Scream 12 - What happens when every character is a Ghostface killer, but none of them know it. Who will be the last Ghostface standing? Find out, Summer 2036.

I'm banking on Sydney being the ringleader, the whole "I want more money" to come back could have been the perfect distraction.. but that's dreaming booking brother!

Yes, a franchise famous for promoting Drew Barrymore as the main character only to kill her off in the first scene is really gonna reveal who the new final girl is.

I am shocked that after all these years with SCREAM movies, no director has ever tried having the true Ghostface Killah to cameo in a movie.
Or even possibly joke around and make him reveal himself as the Killer in the STAB films:

Tara is so much better as a final girl than Sam. And while I didn't love the Billy "ghost" moments in 5cream, I do think the focus on his daughter was fairly interesting.

But after the reveal, Sam is kind of a "character" now, if you know what I mean. The thing that works so well with Sidney is that she's basically the most normal person in the Scream films, despite the trauma associated with her mom. Every other character is some kind of archetype. I guess to some extent, Sid is too as a final girl, but she always felt like the audience surrogate.

I get the same vibes from Tara, whereas Sam is more of a "let's see what she does" kind of character, which almost certainly means she's gonna die.

Well, Hollywood writers must be takin a look in this forun, because I wrote montes ago in one of the Scream news about the 3 killers idea and even about to change the City…

I hope they break tradition and have new killers and not someone they already know. Meaning these killers are fans without any relationship to these characters other than to target them.

The "friends" around are the killer is getting old AF and easily predictable. Rather fresh new faces that don't get revealed until the mask is off. Ryan Reynolds can cameo as a Ghostface reveal for all I care.
