The murderous maniac with a penchant for power tools and fashioning masks from his victims' faces is set to return for a direct sequel to '70s horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the full trailer is set to be released this Monday.

In the meantime, Netflix has debuted a new poster for the horror revival, giving us a teasing glimpse of Leatherface's redesigned mask.

According to producer Fede Álvarez, the movie will serve as a follow-up to Tobe Hooper's original, but unlike David Gordon Green's recent Halloween films, it won't necessarily ignore the events of the other TCM entries in the franchise.

"When I say 'direct sequel' I wouldn't say it skips everything," Álvarez explained. "When movies do that, sometimes it feels a bit disrespectful to all the other films. Some people love Texas Chainsaw 2. I love a lot of things about that movie — it's so wacky and of its time. But the rest is such a mess canon-wise. I think it's up to you to decide when and how the events of the other movies happen."

Check out the poster below along with the first teaser, and let us know if you're looking forward to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The movie is set to premiere on Netflix on February 18.

@NinnesMBC - it’s really disturbing that he wears human flesh as a mask that’s what makes home stand out above the rest of horror icons. Still gives me the chills

@TheAcuario - Exactly, it's one of the weirdest and creepiest ways of having "trophies" or souvenirs out from his victims.

Another caca installment in this caca franchise. I like the remake and I think the original is alright. Other than that? 🗑

If I were to make a movie, the monster would be called Cotton-Eyed Joe just because the song is actually kind of creepy if you crank it down to like half tempo.

If it hadn't been for Cotton-Eyed Joe,
I'd be married long time ago.
Where did you come from?
Where did you go?
Where did you come from,

I'm hoping it's at least decent.

Last TCM I enjoyed was the Jessica Biel one from like, 2005?

I think Texas Chainsaw Massacre would work better as a video game in the same light as Outlast and Resident Evil 7.

@SonOfAGif - God that would be AWESOME

@Menks123 - I think Alien Isolation had the right approach with using hiding and weapons to slow down the Xenomorph while you tried to escape and advance the story. Hell even Friday the 13th the game worked for what it was doing.

@SonOfAGif - 1000%

Alien Isolation was perfect, I can see that exact style in a whole Texas map/area for a game. And it'd freak me out haha

SonOfAGif - 1/28/2022, 3:15 PM
@Menks123 - It would freak me out too. Can you imagine a cornfield area where you need to do stealth to not only avoid Leatherface stalking the field with his chainsaw but also avoid the bear traps the Hewitt family has lying around. And another portion in the house where you can throw bottles to trick Leatherface into entering other rooms? It would be such a great cat and mouse game.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre actually is getting a video game. Unfortunately, it's another one of those shallow multiplayer asymmetrical Dead by Daylight knockoffs.

Teenagers today most of them, not all but most are sooooo f*cking annoying.

It'll be good to see good ole Leatherface f*ck them up with a chainsaw.

Never found Leatherface that scary, it’s his [frick]ed up family that I found scarier. The ones that speak, and know full well what they’re doin. The Jessica Biel remake did well making them really creepy.

Slasher icons just never really scare me. Big quiet dude in a mask running round chasing people with kitchen knives or machetes or chainsaws. Eh. Give me a [frick]ed up ghost anyday. And I dont even believe in ghosts. Just saw this Korean movie called Gonjiam Asylum. I usually refuse to watch foreign language movies because I struggle to connect to the film when I cant understand the dialogue but someone said this was the scariest film theyd ever seen so I gave it a go. [frick] ME. I’ll take a hundred leatherfaces over any [frick]ed up asylum korean ghosts.
