EDITORIAL: Should there be an Iron Man 4?

Is Iron Man 3 the end to Tony's story or is there more to be told? At first I would have said yes, but my mind is beginning to change.

After watching Iron Man 3 I believed that the Iron Man series had reached the conclusion of its story. With Tony having blown up all his suits and getting the piece of shrapnel removed I, at first, went along with many fans in believing that there was no possible way to continue the Iron Man story.

However, some crucial news that has been posted on this site in recent months has led me to change my mind. With Whedon having announced that the title for the Avengers sequel is Avengers: Age of Ultron, and that Hank Pym aka Ant-man is not the father of Ultron; it has been highly speculated that Tony Stark would be the man who builds the Avengers' archenemy. If that turns out to be the case then I think there is room for one more Tony Stark story.

Throughout the Iron Man trilogy Tony's life has been a roller coaster consisting of highs and lows. In Iron Man, Tony experienced his first low point when he was captured by terrorists to build them weapons. However, he came back from that thanks to him building the suit, and giving birth to Iron Man. In Iron Man 2, he hit a deeper low when his arc reactor began to kill him thus leading to alcoholism, and his house being partially destroyed in a battle with Rhodes, but he eventually fixes all that thanks to his father. Then finally Iron Man 3 has him hitting an all-time low with the battle in New York causing Tony to have PTSD, and his house being completely destroyed by the Mandarin, and yet he still manages to crawl out from the pit of despair.

Tony, however, has not hit rock bottom yet in his life. If Tony builds Ultron, and Ultron kills one of the Avengers, as well as a majority of the human population, then this could lead to Tony absolutely hitting rock bottom for Iron Man 4. If Hank Pym is any indication then Tony will be not only experiencing PTSD but an extreme burden of guilt on his shoulders for all that Ultron has done. This could lead us to seeing this kind of Tony in Iron Man 4

This could lead to Tony losing absolutely everything he holds dear including Pepper if his guilt leads him to be an abuser. His extreme guilt, and alcoholism, could even cause him to lose a battle against even the most minor of villains like Madam Masque or Ghost thus leading him to even give up Iron Man for awhile. However like a phoenix rising from the ashes Tony could come back in a blaze of glory to fight off some major disaster. Something I was thinking could happen is that Ultron could return somehow and take over all of Iron Man's suits that he may have built between Iron Man 3 and Avengers 2. This could lead to something taking place in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes where Tony has to go all the way back to his first suit to fight and defeat Ultron once and for all.

Anyway these are just my thoughts. Feel free to debate with me in the comments section below.

Should there be? Debatable. Will there be? Absolutely. Why?

Speaking of that stuff, why is Tony drinking cheap Canadian whisky? Something I've always wondered about that cover.

Who else thinks Tony will be the Avenger Joss Whedon eventually kills? We all know it's going to happen eventually.

Of course there should be more. Lots more!
As a fan of the comics, there is a LOT of source material yet to draw upon.
It takes a lot to make one of these franchises viable at all. It takes a lot to just get one made and have it be successful enough to get a sequel. Sometimes reboots are in order. Sometimes those reboots take many years to get made.
Well, Iron-Man has succeeded. It has broken through. It has been extremely successful.
It seems idiotic to me that they would not pursue this until there is literally nothing left to cream.
They got real lucky with this franchise, what with Bobby Downs and shit. They've actually breathed new life into the character and given us one of the best versions of Iron-Man in any medium. They should now get deeply into the source material and keep this frnachise going for as long as they can.
They should cram as much from the comics in there as they can. Give us an Iron-Man film every year. They can afford it and they will sure as shit get their money back.
And to thoes saying there is too much Iron-Man, right now, get a fvcking grip. It's Iron-Man's time, right now. There is a very real chance here to do the character and his mythology justice.
And yes, they should eventually get into some real deep-assed, gritty and more adult and sophisticated storytelling, with the Demon In The Bottle stuff. But not a straight adaptation, an improvement. Oscar worthy shit. It could be Iron-Man's Dark Knight Returns.
I mena do we really want a reboot of this series? Do we want a reboot of the MCU?! Thought not.
And old Bobby Downs ain't getting any younger.
So, now is the time to strike. Anything to the contrary is completed retarded.

More Ironman more money so yes.Ironman was like Aquaman prior to his first movie.Constantly getting shafted for other heroes. It's Stark's moment in the sun and it's about time they gave him his dues.

Just try better scripts and release a new movie every other phase or something of that effect.

IMO...No

Why?...Iron man has had his time in the spotlight, let Marvel introduce other charaters/franchises and let them have their time to shine.

Sure we could still keep Iron Man around for cameos or small roles if RDJ would prefer doing that since he said he wants to retire the character in solo films to have personal time for his fam and other projects hed like to do.

Keep RDJ/Iron man in the MCU but no more solo films

Jesus... clearly no-one remembers Kevin Feige stating that Iron Man will be treat like Bond, actors will come and go but the character and chronology will remain.

There will be an iron Man 4 as long as the MCU holds together and arses are hitting the cinema seats.

There will eventually be one, but I don't think in the way you're suggesting. And I think it will be several years down the road, since they've already announced their films through 2015, and since RDJ is only signed for 2 Avengers films, not any more Iron Man films.

The more IM movies they make the further they will get from the source material. With Tony creating Ultron they have already opened the door to completely original IM storys. They have taken Tony to a point in his story ware they can step far away from his source and still tell quality stories.
