Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2 debuted to an estimated $133.6 million in a record 4,380 North American theaters this weekend - an average of $30,502 per theater. The opening marks the fifth-highest of all time domestically, surpassing Shrek the Third's $121.6 million and is the second-best opening ever for a film in May, trailing only Spider-Man 3's $151.1 million. On Friday, the Jon Favreau-directed sequel took in $52.3 million, which marks the seventh-best opening day, surpassing the $50 million earned by Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Of the total, $10.2 million came from IMAX theaters, a new record for an IMAX 2D release, passing up the $8.5 million debut of Star Trek last year. The original Iron Man opened to $98.6 million domestically in 2008 and went on to earn $318.4 million in North America.

Internationally, Iron Man 2 added $57.2 million this weekend to take its overseas total to $194 million. The film has earned $327.6 million worldwide since it began rolling out on April 28th. The original Iron Man collected $266.7 million internationally and made $585.1 million worldwide.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling, John Slattery and Clark Gregg, the sequel cost between $170 million and $180 million to make.

Wasn't half as good as Kick Ass? At least the characters being able to fly didn't feel out of place. Don't get me wrong, Kick Ass was good but to say it was better?

I agree, with the whole Iron Man 2 Letdown. I went in expecting a pretty solid story. Movie, kind of lost its edge, and took a more serious side to it...almost as if they were trying "very" hard to please the fans. I didnt like that...and that scene with WAr MAchine and Iron man doing that stupid KAHMEHAMEHA....Are you kidding me? That ruined it!!! Why would you do something goofy like that? Than War machine jacks the suit...even Fury says "you let youre best friend beat you up and take the suit? Youre iron man!!" The movie overall to me is a 79% out of 100. I dont give it a B...because it doesnt deserve it...its a fairly decent movie...but it lost its edge during the middle...

As for KICKASS...Kickass was enjoyable, it was unique, and it was shot differently too. Shit, even NIC CAGE did a great job! The characters all fit the part, and plus, that movie was something all of us fans could actually relate too...its was a bit more serious, and realistic...which makes me bring up the Dark Knight...which is possibly, in my opinion the best CBM ever made...pisses me off it didnt win and oscar for best picture. the movie overall, had a solid story, tone...everything...even chris nolan explain every gadget or thought process of each character, and story arc. The only bad thing I can actually think about in the dark knight is that stupid boat scene when the guy from friday comes up to that guard or whatever and says "give me the remote...and throws it out the boat"....kind stupid if you ask me...until the joker redeems it by saysing "cant trust anyone these days. US fans are soo SPOILED with these great movies...that its very hard to please us. Its very ahrd to please me at least which is why i dont always look at the action...i look at how well developed the story and characters are. Iron man 2 had a lot of silly moments...and im not talking about comic like silly moments...just pointless idiotic stuff. :/

all of you are out of your friggin' minds! IM2 was AWESOME!!! i didn't see any of what any of you are talking about! acting, chemistry/cast, plot, pacing, action and just overall feel of the movie were pitch-perfect!!! it didn't surpass IM1 by any stretch of the imagination; but it was most definitely on par.

i've seen it 3 times already and will probably see it 2 more times (in theaters... lord knows how many times i'll see it once it comes out on Blu Ray). IMO, it's THAT GOOD! also, it just keeps getting better and better w/each watch.

i don't think it would be possible for any movie to live up to the expectations almost all of us had for this movie. IMHO, i think a lot of you are nit-picking the f(ck out of IM2; and to somewhat trash it because you prefer another movie? come on now...

In my opionon Iron Man 2 was a perfect Marvel film and I have seen it 4 times. I just think people hate on Marvel films and think DC and Vertigo does better. I liked Irkn Man 2 because it was about the demon in a bottle comic, it's setting up for the Avengers and Samuel L. Jackson playing Ultimate Nick Fury is great. Ultimate Nick Fury is based off him anyway what's wrong with Ultomate Nick Fury Whats wring with Ultimate Marvel. All of you were anticipating this film and it came out and it's nor good enough don't blame the cast if you don't like it blame Theroux I loved the movie and I'm watching it tonight for a 5th time. What's wrong with War Macine being on the Avengers on Marvel.com it says he is an Avenger honestly why else do you hate the movie for all those who didn't like it. What did it not stay true to the comics, did you hate the story what's not to like I want to know.

"Than War machine jacks the suit...even Fury says "you let youre best friend beat you up and take the suit? Youre iron man!!""

If you did not understand the reason Rhodey was allowed by Stark to take the suit then you have no business commenting on anything to do with the movie. Watch it again, listen to the story and you will, well MAY, understand it.

Saw it yesterday. Loved it, I got what I expected. Have not seen kick ass but I will. Like some have stated, this was a clear sign Favreau knows what he is doing and got solid performances and an awesome fit in the marvel universe. The WHOLE marvel plan is going smooth and heading into avengers. If you were a Marvel Exec and a fan, I think youd be pretty have with the results and the future ahead.

I just watched it this morning and I enjoyed it as much as I did the first one. No real disappointments for me and I was entertained the whole way through. I didn't see the plot holes that others saw and as the Gullotine eluded to, perhaps some people just don't get the meaning behind some of the things that happened in the movie, like the War Machine and IM scene. It all made sense to me.

I really enjoyed the movie, I could definitely somewhat see how a few people could see some "gaps" in the movie, but if they would paid complete attention to the actors and the dialogue, then they wouldnt be complaing about all this crap everyone has been complaining about. It was slightly better than the first, but still is one of the top comic book movies ever.
