Scarlett Johansson to Replace Emily Blunt as Black Widow

Sources confirm Marvel is shopping the role around and that Ms. Johansson has met with the powers that be for initial negotiations.

It seems the scheduling conflict between Gulliver's Travels and Iron Man 2 that Emily Blunt is facing has prompted Marvel Studios to begin discussions with other actresses to fill the role of Black Widow.

Although there has not been an official announcement from Marvel, sources have confirmed that Scarlett Johansson has been approached for the role and is interested in the project.

Maybe not, but I can see her in various other roles. Liiiike, pole jockey du jour. Oh yea. Bow chica wow wow.

As far as this role goes, I don't think they're really going to find anyone is going to be spot-on. I feel it's one of those difficult to cast roles. Like casting who is going to play Deathstroke (although I already made that call a while ago, not easy)...Or who should play Storm, or Sinister (SHAMAN pulled that off) or a plethora of other people. I think it's just kind of one of those "we need to find someone close, then mold them into the role" as opposed to "we need to find Natasha Romonov"

Taffeta, how the hell is she going to 'nail the accent' when we all now she'll be going to the Pavel Chekov School of Russian Accents?!!! Switching around the 'V's' and 'W's' in a sentence and talking like you just came from the dentist after a root canal does NOT a decent Russian accent make!

I like her as actress but as Black Widow? sigh... she's sexy but she doesnt have the killer look and commanding presence that Black Widow has.

I hope some unknown actress gets the role but regardless, i still trust Favreau like adam above.

holy god, i love scarlet. she gives me a semi at the mere mention of her name. The black widow is a b-list character, used for no name actresses that need something sexy yet not too serious so they can gain momentum. Give it to an unknown, there is plenty of 'em and they are plenty hot!

I don't know much about this Black Widow lady, but Scarlet will ruin the movie. Her acting is forced, and I usually have trouble buying it. Your Black Widow should be Lena Headey--the woman from 300 and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Again, extremely attractive, but not quite right for the look of the role. As fun as it is to toss names into the hat on who we think will be good, I'll mirror what others have already said on here. That whomever they pick, I trust Marvel and Favreau know what they're doing.

Yeah, you're right Weapn X. They made some odd casting choices for the Hulk and Iron Man, but they both ended up fine.

But still, I think someone a little more exotic (cough, Olga) should play BW.

Get a Russian (or in this case, a Ukranian) to play a RUSSIAN part! Olga Kurylenko is PERFECT for the role! The studio needs to quit screwing with the 'brand-name reconition' and just get the right actor for the right role!!!

Scarlet is not only wrong for this role but even more so for Emma Frost or even Black Cat. Just because she's blonde, doesn't make her fit for it. Blonde can be fixed but the psychological characteristics needed can't. The only thing she would pull off is Gwen Stacy and that's it.

I'd totally go with unknowns or at least OLGA!!!

Two words people - "OLGA KURYLENKO" (the chick from 'Hitman' and 'Quantum of Solace')!!!!!

a. Ukranian (so no problem with an 'auntheic' accent)! It's a HELLUVA lot better than having a non-eastern european actor attending the Pavel Chekov School of Russian Accents! I've said it before and I'll say it again, switching around the 'V's' and 'W's' in a sentence and talking like you just came from the dentist after a root canal does NOT a decent Russian accent make!

b. Looks more the part - She's fun to look at but I'm sorry, to me Ms. Johansson looks AND acts like she's costantly bored and/or stoned! If they really wanted to go for that vaccous 'dead-behind-the-eyes' look, why didn't they just offer the role to Kim Kardashian?!

c. SMOKIN' HOT (just try not to hit the 'SLO MO' button during her 'special' scenes in 'Hitman' - I dare you!)!!

d. Can definately DO ACTION (just watch 'Quantum of Solace')!!!

Anyone doubt me, just jump over to the 'Eliza Dushku' thread - Godl1ng posted a pic of Olga (for anyone that needs their memories refreshed) there that just screams 'BLACK WIDOW'!!!!
