Iron Patriot - or is it?

You've seen the photos - but is it really the Patriot?

Is it really Iron Patriot? Well my straight forward opinion is no. Norman Osborn is Iron Patriot, and we all know that for those reasons it certainly wouldn’t be that version of the character. Also when you compare this set pic with all the comic art of Iron Patriot, you will notice that the colour scheme is subtly switched around on the helmet and torso, with this “movie Patriot” being blue instead of red. To me that is no doubt inspired by Captain America, and I’m sure there will be some reference in the film that alludes to that.

Another theory that some have come up with is that this suit is merely the War Machine armour re-painted. Well if it is, they have also replaced the helmet, as you will notice it differs from previous Iron Man designs in that the circular piece on the side of the helmet is missing, and the whole face-plate feature of previous suits seems to be gone altogether.

Whatever this turns out to be, it has already increased my enthusiasm levels immensely. There are lots of things now that this film seems to be offering, and I sincerely hope that Shane Black nails it. I personally think that this suit is a nod to the Iron Patriot costume and Detroit Steel ideas, though I hope it isn’t a major part of the film, or at least in its current form…

Given that it is James Badge Dale’s character of Eric Savin wearing it, I wonder if he will get ‘fused’ to the suit with the extremis virus and become a version of Coldblood that way. Coldblood could be this film’s ‘Mallen’ in the storyline.

All in all, I am incredibly excited for this film next year, and I can’t wait for further developments!

I'm thinking he's a fusion of Mallan, Detroit Steel, Iron Patriot and Coldblood. Good write up!

I can't see him being a big part as Black and Fiege have said this isn't another Robot vs Robot film

Yeah the color scheme looks closer to Detroit steel

I'm confident that he'll be called "The Iron Patriot". It's a much more fitting name than "Detroit Steel" or "Coldblood". Now that we're in Phase Two -- the World Security Council is actively pursuing Superhero Registration. Eric Savin could be an (trusted) injured war veteran who (like you said) gets fused into the armor as it's permanent user. Adds more of a reason to be called "The Iron Patriot" (more fitting here than for Norman Osborn). Now, I think the story will deal with Eric Savin using the Extremis technology over the assumed Tony Stark (that story-arc can be saved for later). Aldrich Killian could somehow use the nanotechnology to "control" Eric Savin. And I'm sure the basis of the suit is the stolen War Machine armor. How else would the military power the suit? War Machine had an arc reactor. Also, they gave the helmet a more aggressive anglar shape -- therefore I sense.... "villain"!

Eh, they could of made the blue more prominent to differentiate him from Iron Man (who, as we know, is mainly red).

Why is something that appears to be a spoiler on the front page of this site?!

Thanks, CBM.

@marvel72

They may have taken the aspects of Detriot Steel, but that name (more than likely) won't be used in the film. World Security Council doesn't want a Iron Man, they want a Iron Patriot.

he still has the arc reactor in the middle there is just a star around it.

ThunderKat Sorry you feel spoiled by it but seriously even Yahoo reported it. Get over it. If you don't want to know anything about the movie don't type "comicbookmovie.com" in your browser. Not trying to be rude but you're complaining about something you did. LOL

If this does turn out to be Iron Patriot, they should've stuck more closer to the color scheme in the comics which looks more balanced out then the red white and blue here and there all over the movie armor

No, the reason for the color scheme shift is to wisely avoid confusion during a fight/action scene. Now sure, in a still, you can easily spot the difference, and even while it's in motion, you would probably easily spot the difference because YOU know what the Iron Patriot armor looks like. For all the masses and comic book fans who haven't read Dark Avengers (as it is actually still very new) or seen Detroit Steel (even more so), this would be a problem.

I really don't know (beyond a quick wiki read) anything about Coldblood 7, or Firepower - they are actually pretty obscure characters that I'm assuming no one has a problem with amalgamizing. Truly though, we don't have enough information yet.

@ 3d

you may be right,as tainted87 said i think we need a little more information first.

Superother,

I'm on Yahoo all the time and didn't see this pic. And your contention is silly. CBM, until now, has been very precautionary towards yielding spoilers without warning.

As much as I've loved the MCU so far (Avengers is one of my top 5 films), I'm really concerned about Iron Man 3. It's beginning to look like a cluster-[frick] in my opinion. Too many major characters, too many armors... and I really don't understand how this suit will fit in the story! It may go over well in the US, but I see it being a big WTF moment everywhere else in the world.

I mean, Spider-Man 3 had less characters than this, and it still suffered for including too many.

Plus the amalgamation of characters always pisses me off, and this'll be the 2nd time Iron Man movies have done it (Movie Whiplash was an amalgam of Comic Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo), which means those individual characters can't be used properly in the future. I liked the electro-whips in Iron Man 2, but why'd he have to be Ivan Vanko? At least this film is amalgamating a lesser known villain with the only part of one of Marvel's major villains they own the rights to (Norman Osborn's Iron Patriot).

Still, this whole idea of an 'armor war' thing... I remember a lot of people hoping there'd be no more armored villains in this film some time ago. I also hope Mandarin doesn't have any armor (or at least, powered armor).

Ah well, after Avengers, I guess this won't be bad at all... and even if it is, I can at least enjoy Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark/Iron Man over everything else.
