Did Doug Liman Walk Away From JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK For The Same Reason He Left GAMBIT?

Recently, it was announced that Doug Liman would no longer be directing WB's Justice League Dark movie - a project he signed up for after departing Channing Tatum's Gambit movie at Fox.

If you recall Doug Liman was initially signed up to direct Fox's live-action Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum.  However, he departing that project with the following explanation:

"I look for a personal connection to the movies I make and it may not be immediately obvious. You know, like what’s my connection to Jason Bourne? I have a deeply personal connection to that movie because it’s all about Iran-Contra and my father ran the investigations into Iran-Contra. In every story I have a personal connection. The Wall, you’d be like what could this filmmaker from New York possibly have in common with these two soldiers pinned down in Irag? But The Wall is really about perseverance. It’s about picking yourself up and you just keep going and that’s something I have firsthand experience with. Not in war but in other aspects of life. With Gambit, I just never found that personal way in. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t."

After departing Gambit, Liman quickly signed up for the Justice League Dark movie (after Guillermo del Toro left the director's chair) but it was recently announced that he would also no longer captain that project.  In an interview with IGN, Liman cites a different reason for leaving WB's film.

"I was really excited by the characters and that world, but I’m doing Chaos Walking for Lionsgate next and then Tom [Cruise] and I are hoping to do the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow so it just became a scheduling nightmare."

Could Liman's comments be an indication that WB wants to get the ball rolling on Justice League Dark sooner, rather than later?  With Wonder Woman receiving favorable review scores and audience turnout, perhaps WB will focus more on its supernatural comic book properties?

@ConnorHawkeye - The movie wasn't going to be made for a while anyways so he's lying about scheduling issues. The man is just indecisive.

This dude is a flake. If I was producing a movie and someone brought up his name as a director I would say no way.

He chose chaos walking and edge of tomorrow 2 over a comic book property?

Hmm we will see if that was a good move by his part

While I didn't LOOOOOVE Wonder Woman, I liked it enough, and felt it honored the character and the lore where I want to see more of these movies again. I definitely think Justice League will fare better than everyone is expecting--HOPEFULLY, I won't even mention my thoughts on BVS--And Aquaman looks like a win already. But I can't wait to see them adapt Nightwing, Batgirl, Justice League Dark, Green Lantern Corps(if it's somehow unique among the manny, mannnnny, maaaaaannnny comic book films that will exist and be coming out at that point). Wonder Woman I found to be a mixed bag of good, small moments of great, some okay stuff, and a third act stuffed with bad stuff, but even when I was actively wagging my finger at things, I found myself absorbed in the charm that is found in DC's world, it reminded me why I love these characters. I can't wait to see more, and I will continue to be optimistic moving forward.

@ScarletWarlock - I forgot to mention I'm hopeful for 'The Batman' as well, even though I'm already tired of Batman, and I think Ben did a perfectly okay job in BVS, nothing impressive for me, but it was one film and he didn't get a whole lot to do, performance wise, in my opinion, so I'm excited to see how they evolve his character, especially with such a great guy like Matt Reeves at the helm. If DC is back in the game, then I'm more ecstatic about the comic book age than I thought possible.
