Doug Liman Elaborates On Why He Decided Against Directing JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK

Doug Liman first decided against directing Gambit and later left Justice League Dark too. Here, the filmmaker elaborates on why the DC Comics adaptation ultimately wasn't a good fit for him...

It was three months ago that Doug Liman decided to walk away from Justice League Dark and the movie still has no director. Considering the fact it was mentioned by Warner Bros. at Comic-Con, it's clearly still a priority for them and will no doubt be released at some point in the near future. Liman's decision to walk away was still a shame, though, but why exactly wasn't the DC Comics movie for him?

Well, it doesn't sound like creative differences can be blamed this time! Instead, it seems to boil down to the fact that he was never really that close to the project and simply couldn't get the story right.

"You know, I develop more movies than I make," The Edge of Tomorrow helmer explains. "There’s a weed-out process, and it’s just that when you get to the comic book one, suddenly everybody hears about them. So, the script never got to a place that was special enough for me. Not for lack of trying." So, it clearly doesn't sound like he was too desperate to work on a comic book movie then!

You can't blame him if the script wasn't up to scratch, though, and he was hopefully just being picky rather than this being a sign that Warner Bros. has a mediocre take on the supernatural team in the works. Chances are a rewrite could be in order when a new director steps in
anyway, so fingers crossed it works out in the end! What do you guys think? As always, be sure to share your thoughts below.

I wonder how long will it take to find a director for this and a release date. Time
flies.

I like his movies alot for the most part but as we've seen with Jumper and Edge of Tomorrow hes not really one to faithfully adapt something so im glad hes not doing a CBM despite looking forward to what he does next

I think they need someone who's got a hand in horror to take this on, it shouldnt be a horror movie per say but it does need to have soe of those elements between Swamp Thing being a very cerebral take on a Universal monster movie, and Constantine being a kind of outlandish snarky version of the guy from The Exorcist you need someone who understand those tropes and can play with tem at least on a surface level

if he wasnt already doing Aquaman id actually say James Wan, maybe Fede Alvarez, Dan Trachtenberg, or Robert Eggers (I havent seen The Witch but heard great things)

@RedLightning - You caught us, me and the 91% of critics who gave the movie good reviews were just lying to get people to see a boring movie. And we would have gotten away with it if not for you meddling kids.

All this A-Hole did was talk up how amazing this movie was gonna be and how it'd be something we've never seen.

GDT wrote the script and I can't imagine it not being "special enough."

@Nightmare - personally, I think Del Toro could do a great Swamp Thing stand alone movie.
