#7 Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Number 7 on my list is without a doubt Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. I did not bother to see this in theaters, but I did check it out on Netflix just for the heck of it and it was just painful to watch. Everything wrong with the first film and them some more are added to this sequel, I have nothing else to say about it.
#6 The Amazing Spiderman
Now I've never been a big Spiderman fan, I've enjoyed some stories with the character in it but I would not go out of my way to read a spiderman book. I was actually very happy to hear they were rebooting this franchise, cause honestly I did not care for the Sam Raimi spiderman movies, they were very goofy and too over the top for my taste even in my younger years they did nothing for me.
So now we get this reboot and I think I actually dislike this movie more than I do the Raimi films, Peter Parker is suppose to be a relatable character especially to kids and teenagers, but in this film I just could not relate or connect with his character personally besides losing his uncle and the normal everyday teenage stuff I found his characterization in this movie be very off putting.
Gwen Stacy was a step up from Mary Jane in the previous Spiderman movies but she is honestly the only thing I really enjoyed about the film. The villain was also very boring, generic and just dull. I also was very bored with this movie, the pacing is very slow and sluggish there is no excitement to it all IMO. Overall it's a movie I would not bother seeing again.
#5 Superman vs The Elite
I am a big of the Superman story Whats so funny about Truth Justice and The American Way, so when I heard DC/WB animation was going to adapt this I was really excited and I was not disappointed. This movie adds a lot to the original story and at the same time it changes some thing to make it flow better. The only thing I really disliked about this movie is the art-style, the animation itself is moderate to really good in some places, but the art-style is just not appealing to the eye at all.
I'd definitely say check this out, it's a story that pushes superman morals to it's limits in this modern cynical world where killers are glorified and common decently seems to be fading away, it also has one the best Superman battle moments, I won't spoil what happens but you'll know it when you see it.
#4 The Dark Knight Rises
The finale in Nolan's Batman trilogy. I keep going back and forth on this movie, on one hand there a lot of thing I really love about this move, the first fight between Bane and Batman in the sewers, Tom Hardy's performance in that scene really blew me away, despite my dislike of the voice the dialogue he delivered was fantastic and the way he sold it was great body language and everything. Anne Hathaway's take on Catwoman shocked me, I did not think I would like her but she proved me wrong.
Then we have things I really dislike about the film, like how easily Bane was take out, Bane should have been the main villain in this film, I thought adding Talia to the mix was a mistake or at least making Bane Talia's lackey was just a poor choice if you ask me. I also thought that Bruce Wayne's recovery was a little quick and convenient, since Nolan pushes the whole realism thing the movie really contradicts itself, going from a realistic tone to a more fantastical tone throughout the film.
Overall I enjoyed the movie but I think it's the weakest out of the trilogy and also the weakest film Nolan has made thus far.
#3 The Dark Knight Returns Part 1
Whats that?! Batman comes back twice in one year?? Well he's Batman just go with it lol. See what I did there?
But on a serious note I actually really really loved this animated feature, I am not a big fan of Frank Millers Batman work, when I first read The Dark Knight returns I had a hard time getting through the artwork, I liked (Not loved) the first half of the book and the second half not so much. This animated adaptation has a great voice cast not one voice bothered me or took me out of the movie everyone was spot on.
The art is similar to the original book but it's more tolerable here, it's definitely an improvement over the art in the comics. The action, the violence it's all top notch and the soundtrack/score is also very fitting for this. If you are fan of The Dark Knight Returns or Batman in general I would highly recommend seeing this.
#2 The Avengers
I don't have much to say other than it's the greatest live action superhero movie made thus far. My only complaint is Loki just bores me, he really was just a pawn in a bigger plan. But the comedy, the action, the character interaction it's all well done. Well done Marvel Studio's what an achievement.
#1 Dredd
Yeah even though I just saw it, I plan to see it again. I won't spoil anything but this is a movie that will surprise you by how good it is. It's good to see something that's not Marvel or DC related get such a good treatment on the big screen.
Despite the movie not being a major money maker, I think word of mouth will help the DVD/Blu-Ray sales a lot.
Fun year of CMB's I hope next year and the years to come are better. That's my personal list what's yours look like?
