2013 was a great year for movies, I have not seen all of them but this list is based on the ones I have seen. I have chosen these 7 movies as my favorites of 2013.

7. Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim is directed by Guillermo Del Toro, one of the best out there today. When I heard about this movie I thought it was going to be a mindless action movie like transformers but this movie surprised me. Even though the characters aren't the best you still care for them and I thought all of the actors did a very good job, even though Charlie Hunnam's accent slipped a few times, he was still decent in the role. Of course the action sequences between the Jaegers and the Kaiju were Amazing, you could actualy tell what was going on during the fights and the CGI was also amazing. Overall I thought this was a very entertaining and cinematic movie.

6. Star Trek Into Darkness

I thought the first Star Trek movie in J.J Abrams series was a very enjoyable reboot/reimagining of the Trek universe. The second installment in the series is just as enjoyable as the first but not necessarily a better movie. Benedict Cumberbatch is great in this as Khan, he steals the scenes he is in,the returning cast from the previous movie slip right back into there rolls and it feels like they never left. In the end, Star Trek Into Darkness was exciting and has some great character moments.

5. Iron Man 3

Shane Black's Iron Man 3 was disappointing to most fans of the character, the biggest complaint about the movie was of course the Mandarin twist. I generally like the twist, it was unexpected and different from the comic, the Mandarin is an idea, a symbol, not a physical being. I never thought the Mandarin was that great of a villain in the first place, he never had his 'Killing Joke'. If you don't like the twist because you think the character was ruined, tell me the best mandarin story and why he is so great. Venom in Spider-Man 3 was ruined because they were trying to hard to do the character in a short period of time, but in this case they weren't trying to make the mandarin from the comics, this is the version of the mandarin in the movie universe. The 616 universe and the ultimate universe have there own version of the villain who are different from each other just like the unique version of the Mandarin in the Marvel Cinematic universe. The acting was great, the movie could have had a little less humour but the movie over all was very enjoyable.

4. Man Of Steel

This new vision of Superman is a darker and more realistic version of the character and this movie opened the gate to the possible DC cinematic universe we have been waiting for. Henry Cavill was a very relatable Superman and a very heroic looking one too. The action was superb and the CGI was great, yes, there may be too much action in this movie but it is still a very entertaining reimagining of the origin story we all know and love.

3. The Wolverine

X-Men Origins:Wolverine was not what people expected, it was very disappointing and was too overcrowded with characters and storylines. However, The Wolverine was a huge step up for me, it shows that even though immortality sounds cool, it really wouldn't be, it is a curse. To live forever would be a terrible experience, you would see loved ones die and you would live on. Hugh Jackman cares so much about the character of Wolverne, after this many movies, most actors would stop caring but this man genuinely loves the character. The first two acts are very strong and the third one is not as well done as the other two but this movie was fantastic and the wolverine movie we deserve.

2. Thor: The Dark World

This movie was very enjoyable and my second favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe movie after The Avengers. This movie shows that Thor can carry his own film without the Avengers at his side, Chris Hemsworth is great as the God of Thunder and the whole cast was fantastic especially Tom Hiddleston as Loki, my favorite character in this film. Loki and Thor are a great team but you can never trust Loki, he is unexpected and mischievous.

1. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

For my number 1 choice, I have chosen the second chapter in the Hobbit Trilogy. The first Hobbit movie was enjoyable but it had some pacing issues, The Desolation of Smaug is a huge step up from the first movie, the story keeps moving and the action scenes are fantastic. The scene with the dwarves in the barrels made me go on the edge of my seat, Marin Freeman is the perfect Bilbo Baggins, Ian Mckellen is great as Gandalf even at his old age, and of course Smaug the dragon portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing as he always is. The whole movie was another great chapter in the Middle-Earth saga.

This list is based off of my own opinions and some of you may agree or disagree with me, tell me your thoughts down below in the usual place!

The Hobbit part duo and The Wolverine are my on my top list too ...

Never thought that Hobbit part duo would end up being on my top list.

Really good movie. Better than the first one.

my guess is that the more Jackson distance himself from the source material, the better movie he can make.

Also - Desolation should get an Oscar for best editing.

Also - the Wolverine should be at least nominated for the best Production Design.
