Too much politically correct?

Why change characters' ethnicity?

Editorial Opinion

First, my apologies for eventual spelling and grammar's mistake. Some of you know I'm from Italy. Then.. My editorial's title says everything. You all are Americans, and probably with more and more multi-ethnic culture than a European. People know it's important to safeguard minority groups. But is it so necessary to apply this concept even in an art form, such as a movie, that at its origin was made differently?

Do you think, for example, having a fourth black Ghostbuster, Alicia masters, Nick Fury, Catwoman, Kingpin, a black Harvey Dent in the first "Batman" movie, and Morgan Freeman in the last one, or two totally reinvented characters in "Twilight" movie that were not in the book could really help our society a little bit? Is it really necessary? I love Rhodes,or Blade. And love every single comic character in the way they were created.

But, I think they've changed characters that are not very popular, comparing them to the big names likes Superman and Spiderman. They can change minor characters like Fury and occasional villains. But I don't think they will ever change batman or superman.

Changing their ethnicities doesn't necessarily help our society, but make the characters more universal and relatable.

I'm an American ladies and gentlemen, and a fiercely proud one at that, but when it comes to race issues or other "political correctness" matters, I have to submit that America is FULL of either panzies who fear offending someone/anyone... OR people who are opporunists using this madness that is being "politically correct" for their own means.

Take for instance the healthcare debate, both sides are valid, but to incinuate that those who are OPPOSED to it are acting on some kind of racial motive is insane. I happen to be more conservative (than some, more liberal than others) and I can tell you that I very rarely hear the President's race brought up.

I dunno at what point we became so intimidated to offend people in this country, but it's ridiculous. You cant say a thing without considering who it might offend.

As far as changing the races of characters, it doens't bother me that much simply because a lot of these characters and their entire universes were whitwashed back in the day, with black characters being marginalized...this is something Ultimate Marvel helped correct. But when it gets excessive it shows how uppety we all are in this country!

umnnnn.....

back to the original question.

As for the Lucius Fox character in Batman. He was originally in the books and was depicted as a black man, a Korean War veteran by the way, if I remember a particular issue of Batman and the Outsiders correctly.
