DC Comics currently has four television series (ArrowGothamThe FlashiZombie) on air, three more (SupergirlLegends Of TomorrowLucifer) set to premiere next season, three pilots (PreacherTitans/BlackbirdsPowerless) ordered, and a handful more (Krypton, DMZScalpedAmped, etc.) currently in development.

Long list right? Well, it looks like that long list just got a little longer.

Deadline is reporting that NBC is actively developing an hour-long series based on Summit Entertainment's Red movie franchise, which is based on the limited comic series, of the same name, published by Homage Comics and later distributed by DC Comics. The producers of the hit 2010 film and its 2013 sequel,
Lorenzo di Bonaventura & Mark Vahradian, will oversee development alongside screenwriters Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber, who wrote both films. Lionsgate TV & Di Bonaventura Pictures Television will produce.

Details about the series remain scarce, but the show is said to be set in a bit more grounded and authentic world, when compared to the films, that will focus on "the characters' darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out."

The two films featured an ensemble cast that featured Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Karl Urban, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung-hun Lee, and Brian Cox, amongst others.

What do you guys think about a Red television series? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Hmmm. The big reason this franchise works on screen is a really top notch cast. None of these actors will be on a TV version.

i guess they won't cast old tv stars like Lorenzo Lamas, Norris, Peta Wilson, Michael T. Weiss, Rob Stewart or that kid from TMNT movie ? Cause if they would cast the old action tv stars i would probably start being interested in this project. Guess they gonna go with some unheard, younger cast.

It'll have a good first season then get cancelled because it didn't have over 8 million viewers.

Or they could go with Tom Skerrit, Tom Selleck and Kris Kristofferson

I loved the RED comic, but I was never a fan of it being a geriatric team comedy.

@jerryblake
In the comics, it was one man vs the CIA. Like an anti-government version of Die-Hard.

@jerryblake. I actually really like the idea of Tom Selleck taking over the Bruce Willis role. I would watch that!

In case anyone is interested - the pilot for LUCIFER is online. Its not bad, just not a patch on the vertigo comic really. I'll follow it and hope it improves.

There are other comic book properties that should get the TV/Film treatment.
RED movies are fun/cool but need more new & fresh stuff now.

Why? For God's sake why? I mean they're fun enough popcorn movies, but there are other comic things far more worthy of development.

Part of the appeal of the films was seeing all of these elderly A-list actors (Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, ETC) gather on screen to kick-@$$. Considering that a television series doesn't have the budget to afford that, I think I might pass on this one.
