Summit Entertainment has hired Robert Schwentke to direct the sequel to Divergent, which will be called Insurgent. Schwentke, should be quite familiar to most of us as he has directed two comic book movies in the past, Bruce Willis' Red (2010) and Ryan Reynolds' R.I.P.D. (2013). Divergent, which stars Shailene Woodley ("The Amazing Spider-Man 2"), is the first of a planned trilogy. The films are based on the novels written by Veronica Roth. The script for Insurgent is currently being written by Akiva Goldsman based on a draft by Brian Duffield. Insurgent will land in theaters March 20, 2015. Why isn't Divergent director Neil Burger directing the sequel? Well, according to Summit post-production on Divergent will overlap pre-production on Insurgent. Summit wants to whip out the sequel as fast as they can, and can't wait around for the first film to be complete to start planning the second.

The story is set in a future where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.

DIVERGENT is directed by Neil Burger (Limitless), and is based on a best-selling book series by Veronica Roth. The cast includes: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ashley Judd and Miles Teller. It's set to hit theaters on March 21st, 2014.

And I'm almost POSITIVE, after seeing these trailers, that the real reason Miss Woodley was cut from TASM2 is that at the end of the day, she turned in a bad performance.

They can sugarcoat it all they want, but look at her scenes in Divergent and compare it to the caliber of actor cast for TASM2.
I think they made a bad decision, a very public one, and are trying to save her some face.
That's my theory, anyway.

Looks like crap. Watching the trailer in the theater made me think that this is the poor man's Hunger Games crossed with Twilight.
Why has this film been green-lit for a sequel when it has not been released yet?

I don't see this failing at the box office with female led action movies being so hot right now.

It's shame she won't be able to play MJ in TASM3. She would've been great in the role.

"HEY, WHAT DID SHE SAY?"

"SHE SAID I WAS GONNA DIE A VIRGIN."

"I CAN FIX THAT."

I get that we don't report exclusively CBMs here anymore, but is there literally any interest in this film from anyone on this site? it is a plot-hole ridden attempt to rip off and cash in on hunger game's success as a book and film.

This shit will be such a mega bomb... it will be a mega bomb. THAT is how bad it will bomb.

I felt bad that they replaced her on "Amazing" 2 simply because she looked bad, but after seeeing iinterviews and further acting she is REALLY bad.

Whoever cast her cost the studio a lot of money. Should be fired STAT!
