AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Teaser Trailer Racks Up An Impressive 148.6 Million Views In Just 24 Hours

After debuting in theaters in front of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it's been confirmed that the Avatar: The Way of Water teaser trailer generated over 148 million views online in 24 hours.

The first trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water premiered in theaters last weekend in front of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with an official online release following on Monday. This sneak peek at James Cameron's Avatar sequel was highly anticipated, especially as it's been nearly thirteen years since the first instalment was released and broke countless box office records.

THR (via SFFGazette.com) has revealed that the sequel's teaser managed to rack up an impressive 148.6 million views during its first 24 hours online, with 23 million of those from China alone.

What's interesting about this number is that Avatar: The Way of Water's trailer views have surpassed those for every single modern Star Wars movie, including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's 112.4 million. That's an impressive feat given how much more iconic that Galaxy Far, Far Away is than Pandora, and all of this points to Cameron having another record-breaking hit on his hands.

Since many people saw the trailer in theaters before watching the Doctor Strange sequel, it hasn't cracked the Top 10 and is a far cry from a number of recent superhero blockbusters. Avengers: Endgame's teaser racked up a whopping 289 million views in 24 hours, while Spider-Man: No Way Home remains the record holder with a jaw-dropping and hard to beat 355.5 million views.

We expect Avatar: The Way of Water to open big at the box office later this year, but whether it can surpass its predecessor or even movies like Jurassic World and Avengers: Endgame remains to be seen.

Avatar: The Way of Water arrives in theaters worldwide on December 16.

@regularmovieguy - I get that this is a really, really, REALLY stupid nitpick, but given Cameron's Canadian, shouldn't his head be all flappy like Ike and Terrance & Phillip?

I agree with many people here, I loved the first Avatar movie. I wish I could've seen it in the theaters to have had the overall theater experience. I know the next one will be a huge hit in the box office for sure.

Guys can I say this?

I love cbm’s.

Image comics only tho. I know y’all agree, liars one and all. Spawn v Savage Dragon directed by Francis ford Coppola didn’t pass 5 billion for nothin, and that’s just in the island of Saskatchewan.

I'm surprised it didn't make the top 10 honestly

But people are clearly still hyped for this franchise 13 years later

1st movie was so boring. It's no wonder it took them this long to release a sequel.
ClipClop

Honestly surprised. I barely heard people talking about this franchise for a long time, it was easy to believe that it didn't leave much of a long-lasting impact. But there's clearly interest. I hope it's better than the first one, to me it was a very good-looking movie and not much else. Maybe now that the set-up is done they can do something more interesting with the sequels. James Cameron is great, so even though I'd rather see him doing something else rather than spent 20 years just on this franchise, I hope it's good.

It’s such an odd take to think that people aren’t excited for a sequel to the biggest grossing movie of all time.
Comicmoviejunki
Comicmoviejunki - 5/12/2022, 1:48 AM
@TheUnworthyThor - because people fell for the 3D gimmick. The movie was trash. I wouldn't pay to watch this if it were the last film on earth!
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 5/12/2022, 2:21 AM
@Marveladdict - It was literally nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, with a good Rotten Tomatoes score and a good CinemaScore, so suffice it to say people liked it, and not just people who normally like genre stuff. So that’s cool if you don’t want to see it, I’m certainly not going to try to convince you to, but it doesn’t change the fact that lots and lots and lots of people will watch this movie as further evidenced by how many people watched the trailer.
ClipClop
ClipClop - 5/12/2022, 2:33 AM
@TheUnworthyThor - I really thought people didn't care about it because I've barely seen anyone talk about it for a long time. Every time there were news about these sequels, it made little noise. Like, I remember the news about Vin Diesel joining one of these a while ago, and I feel like almost no one knows about it. Somehow, Brie Larson joining Fast and Furious seemed like a bigger deal. Not to mention the 13-year gap between 1 and 2. But judging by the number of views, general audiences really do seem to care about it. Just goes to show how small the internet bubble is, if you needed any more evidence of that.

@TheUnworthyThor - I am excited. The first one was an anazing cinema experience. Characters and story were okay (unless we count Pandora as a character, because that's then the best one), but it's the visuals I'm coming back for.
