Bryan Cranston is in negotiations for a villainous turn in Columbia's new Total Recall reports Heat Vision. Cranston is best known as the father, Hal, on Malcolm in the Middle. As well as his award winning portrayal of Walter White on AMC's Breaking Bad.

Starring Colin Farrell in the role of Douglas Quaid originated by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the earlier film. Total Recall will be a completely different film from the original 1990 movie, which was based on the Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale."

Cranston will play Vilos Cohaagen, brought to life with such aplomb by Ronny Cox in Paul Verhoeven's ultra-violent actioner. Taking the directing reins this time out will be none other than Mr. Kate Beckinsale himself, Len Wiseman. Known for high octane films such as Live Free and Die Hard, and Underworld.

Instead of taking place on Mars, this time around the idea is to stay put on Earth with a significant twist to the story to accomplish a unique presentation. According to reports the movie will involve the two great nations of Euromerica and New Shanghai, and it will follow Quaid, a factory worker who begins to think he’s actually a spy, though he has no idea for which nation. Cranston’s character will be the leader of Euromerica who is secretly planning an invasion of New Shanghai.

I like this casting but the new Earth setting being successful will be predicated on the quality of the script. Wiseman tends to push the envelope when it comes to action scenes as well. Something that he has in common with Verhoeven. Also, I'm hoping for a nice steamy Sharon Stone-style sex scene between Beckinsale and Farrell. She hasn't been cast yet but sleeping with the director has seemed to help her land other roles in his films in the past.
