TMZ is reporting that fan-favorite actor Bill Paxton has died at the age of 61, following post-op complications from heart surgery, which resulted in a fatal stroke.

Paxton's career spanned over forty years, beginning in 1975 with an uncredited appearance in the action/comedy Crazy Mama. He would go on to accumulate over sixty film and tv credits over the next four decades and earn four Golden Globe nominations, a Primetime Emmy nomination, a Screen Actors Guild award, and much more.

A family representative has released the following statement:

“A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

Paxton became best known to audiences over the course of the 80s and 90s with memorable performances in a number of action/sci-fi classics, including The TerminatorCommando, Aliens, Predator 2, True Lies, Apollo 13, and Twister. In 1997, he starred in one of the biggest blockbusters ever, Titanic, as Brock Lovett.

He made his directorial debut in 2001 with the psychological thriller Frailty and later helmed the sports drama The Greatest Game Ever Played in 2005.

In the mid-2000s, Paxton ventured into television with the acclaimed HBO drama series Big Love where he starred as polygamist Bill Henrickson, a role that garnered him three Golden Globe nominations over the course of its five-year run. In 2012, he starred in the three-part History channel miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, in the leading role of Randall McCoy, which earned him an Emmy nomination.

Paxton's more recent film credits include Edge of Tomorrow, Nightcrawler, 2 Guns, and Million Dollar Arm. He also recently completed a six-episode arc on the first season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and was starring on the CBS cop drama Training Day at the time of his passing.

He is slated to make a posthumous appearance in the upcoming thriller The Circle.

Paxton is survived by his two children, James & Lydia Paxton, and his wife of thirty years, Louise Newbery

Our deepest condolences.

Game over man! Sorry, someone had to be the ass that said it. Seriously, though this man was a genre icon. A great actor that was in everything back in the day. Truly shocking.

@Mrcool210 - It didn't do very well at the box-office, that might be why. It's a shame, because I would've loved to see him direct some more stuff.

Frailty is a movie I've wanted to see for the longest time, but I ended up forgetting the title of it. So I never got around to it.

Now, thanks to your post, I know. Thanks again!
