I have a confession to make:

I have never seen this show, and up until about 5 years ago, I though Dr. Who = Mr. Magoo.

Not sure how I got those mixed up, but that's my story.

@MAC

I don't even know what it is. I know that tons of people have played the same guy like James Bond, and its supernatural/deals with time travel/and he lives or works or flies in a phone booth.

Skip 1-2 because of Rose Tyler and go from series 3. Skip the series 4 finale because that involves Rose. Just avoid everything with Rose. In fact, avoid Davies run, Rose haunts it. Skip to Moffat (5 on) if you want hard Science Fiction, go to Davies if you want a terrible romance that haunts everything or y'know, go to the really good classic stuff.

Here are some good stories to start with...
City of Death (fourth doctor)
Deadly Assassin (fourth doctor)
Tomb of the Cybermen(2nd doctor)
Pyramids if Mars (4th doctor)
Or, for the new stuff...
The Eleventh Hour
Blink
Smith and Jones
The Master trilogy
Vincent and the Doctor

It really depends on where you start, I started with classic stories, my first being City of Death. I started with Matt Smith and Moffat's reign on the new series when I watched the first episode of series 6 with my friends.

This is not a "Day of the Doctor" trailer. The official Doctor Who tumblr page confirms this. This is a "50th Anniversary Tribute". They said that the ACTUAL "Day of the Doctor" trailer will be out soon.

@MartianAbominationClone

That is incorrect, Police boxes where more of a mini police station for patrolling officers, inside they had telephones with direct lines to the nearest police station which the officers could use as well as the public. Police stations would also contact patrolling officers by flashing the light on top of the box. They where not used to hold criminals.

That trailer is awesome. Love the extended Tom Baker shot. The fourth Doctor was my first and he's definitely my favorite. I like the new guys too (I think Matt Smith is pretty awesome). I'm just curious how much of the previous Doctors we're going to see in the anniversary episode. There was more than a couple scenes featuring past Doctors working together (one brief scene even showed David Tennant on the old school Tardis with Doctors 2 & 3.

^ Seriously? 10th working with 2 and 3? Sweet.

For those wanting to start up watching Doctor Who, I recommend just starting from Series 1 (2005). If you're pressed for time though, just an episode or two from series 1, series 2-4 and series 5-7 should give you a good idea of how it is.

That trailer though... man that was cool.

The Doctor is an alien Time Lord from Gallifrey, he has two hearts and minor telepathic abilities which allow him to speak any language. When mortally wounded he can regenerate a new body. He travels through space and time in a stolen TARDIS which is bigger on the inside and should be able to change its appearance to merge into its surroundings. During a visit to 1963 Britain it disguised itself as a Police Telephone Box, however something went wrong and the shape stuck. He usually has a companion, for some strange reason hot young ladies are popular.

Never mind, I got duped. That trailer showing 10, 2, & 3 together was a fake. In my defense though, it was touted on a lot of web sites as legit.

I'm excited for this despite hating Moffat's writing these days. His first episodes during the Davies era were way better.
