It Sounds Like Another POWER RANGERS Movie Is In The Works At Hasbro And Paramount Pictures

The 2017 Power Rangers movie was widely considered a disappointment but it seems as if the franchise still has a future on the big screen thanks to Hasbro and Paramount Pictures' ongoing relationship...

The last Power Rangers movie to hit the big screen was a total mess. It wasn't until the final act that the heroes showed up ready for a fight, while some awkward Krispy Kreme product placement was widely ridiculed (as was the attempt to give the Rangers a superhero origin story).

However, it now appears as if a reboot could be in the works because Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner has revealed in a financial call that the toy makers (who acquired the rights to the Powers Rangers last year) and Paramount Pictures are currently talking about a new movie. No further details were revealed but this partnership obviously makes perfect sense.

After all, Hasbro's collaboration with Paramount has resulted in $5 billion of box office earnings from the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, not to mention the increased toy sales those resulted in.

There have been rumblings about a new Power Rangers movie for a while now and a reboot definitely seems like the best route to head down. It is, however, possible that the original actors will return with redesigned uniforms as they were a mostly well-cast bunch and there's still time for the franchise to be fixed providing they avoid some of the mistakes made by the first movie.

What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Just do this with even brighter colours (make it look less try hard gritty)

And embrace the [frick]ing camp and retro cheese. Set it in the 90s.

@Nebula - I love and hate this thing at the same time.

On one hand, R-rated cyberpunk Power Rangers is cool as hell, but on the other hand it's a bit to try hard for me.

Pretty great VFX though.

Im physced about this!! I actually really enjoyed the last one. Yeah it had its issues and lacked in a few areas but mostly it hit the mark for me. Was kinda gutted it didnt do well! In hidsight yeah it took a while for the costumes etc to turn up but given it had to explain the whole history of the rangers etc ..it needed that time. Also - B Cranston as Zordon come on!!!! Fricking awesome.

Also - that 15 min adult power rangers movie that was made with Van der beek et all. Was pretty dope. Understand they cant make one like that full scale cos of the kids etc..but that would be dope to see!

I liked the Power Rangers movie. It was good for a first film. If a second movie comes out, I want them mostly to change the costumes and have lord Zedd as their antagonist.

In this world full of cinematic universes, they could risk making solo movies as each character located around the world comes across their power coin, then we get Power Rangers.

Personally, I think a power rangers movie can work, it is fun, action with a light tone however with some great morals, it is very Marvel in a way.

Just do a Bumblebee movie and give the Zords the designs from the show

@Knightrider - I think solo movies is too excessive. I dont wanna watch 5 individual movies before a 6th team up movie to finally see the Power Rangers. And them living in the same community and interacting with each other as civilians is kinda essential to the whole tone of what makes the team special. They arent just random Superheroes from all over the Earth, they are teenagers who go to the same school and quickly become a tight nit group of friends, more so like a family. That bond is crucial and that would be non existent if they had to teleport back to their own countries for solo movies after the team up.

I feel like the world of Power Rangers has great potential and because of how bad the last one was the only way to do the series justice is bring in a whole new cast. Plus this time don't be afraid to keep them in the masks throughout the whole movie.

I actually like the 2017 movie, but I wouldn’t mind another reboot. I think if done well, a whole Hasbro shared universe thing could work

The 2017 reboot wasn't terrible, there was just questionable dialogue and character development throughout (not just the Rangers, which IMO, were all pretty poorly cast).

Hoping for a better one this time around, I guess...

2017 wasn’t that bad so I can take the same cast doing a sequel

@Supercat6376 - LOL I like it; but it does have potential.

I know what you mean I tried to re-watch 1st Seasons MMPRs all through Alien Rangers on Netflix while working out. It took me a year and a half to successfully finish it.

I currently made past "Power Rangers Lost Galaxy" I think I've earned myself some sort of achievement.

As corny as the show is it does have allot of potential & toys lots of damn toys.

@Matador - I have 3 kids. The toys are another reason for me to hate it lol. The original cast is the only thing I can tolerate.

@Supercat6376 - LOL I got one kid and agree original cast were better but Bulk & Skull never did seem to change.

Kids love giant robots and giant monsters that will never get old.

I actually liked the last one quite a bit aside from the lowish quality CG fight at the end, I would kinda like that to continue tbh

The only things I disliked about recent one were the suit and Zord designs...and Goldar.
TheOverseer
TheOverseer - 2/11/2019, 5:39 AM
Bring back the same cast, hire a better director. Redesign the suits to have a closer resemblance to the original shows' outfits.Have them be Power Rangers more, doing Power Ranger things.

Gareth Evans would be perfect for this. Doubt he would take the job however.

The biggest issue I see with the Power Rangers property is who do you target for a movie? If you target kids, it needs to follow the same path as the television show as far as structure, being more light hearted, etc. The kids route will not be something more universal with adults, so your audience is very limited. The reality is this route is better suited for television.

If you go the adult route, it needs to be more serious, but at the same time appeal to kids, as you don't want to lose the kid factor. The last one was very serious for the most part, but was also boring, so there is no way it would keep a child's attention. I think they have to find a balance. Light hearted, but not goofball, but also serious enough to attract the adults. Have at it Hasbro!

If this new power rangers movie is R Rates sign me up lol. Check this out, watch from 4:07 To 4:23 and tell me I don't have the look of a edgy Zack Taylor or even Billy cranston

I thought the last movie did a lot of things really well that I would like to see carried forward. I thought that having Zordon and Rita be former rangers was really cool, and I liked the updates to the teens. I also appreciated that they did more with the zords before they transformed into the Megazord, unlike the in the tv series.

I hated the new Goldar though, and it was pretty lame that the rangers didn't show up until the final act.

@TheRealMandarin - It will have the same tone as the previous Transformers and G.I. Joe movies.

The "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" comic is so good, I might be down for this. Honestly just consult with that writer for the story. (I only read up to shattered grid so forgive me if it got bad after that)

My favorite aspect about the last movie was the cast and the way the characters were written. It could have been Transformers all over again, but the characters and performances respectively made that film pretty good. It's not great, but the fact that their main aim was to make the Rangers relatable and likeable was really commendable. Hopefully this next installment can be a spiritual sequel of sorts and not do the origin story again. Also, I think Guillermo del Toro is the perfect director for this film (Pacific Rim was basically the perfect Power Rangers movie not to be named as such).
