It's Morphin Time!

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are back in the official trailer for their upcoming 30th Anniversary Reunion Special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, which looks even more morphenomenal - and emotional - than we could've ever imagined.

As we've known since the initial announcement, the upcoming Netflix special will pay tribute to the late Thuy Trang (Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger I), who tragically passed away in 2001. The new trailer sheds some light on the major plot point, as we witness a suited-up Trini sacrifice herself to save Billy (David Yost) from Robo-Rita's fatal attack. We learn her fate shortly thereafter as her daughter Minh (Charlie Kersh) asks about the Rangers' next move.

From the original Mighty Morphin cast, both David Yost (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger) and Walter Jones (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger I) will suit up and will be joined by Season 2 and 3 cast members Steve Cardenas (Rocky DeSantos/Red Ranger II), and Catherine Sutherland (Kat Hillard/Pink Ranger II).

Johnny Yong Bosch (Adam Park/Black Ranger II) and Karan Ashley (Aisha Campbell/Yellow Ranger II) are also back in supporting roles as members of the mysterious SPA, with newcomer Charlie Kersh portraying Trini's daughter Minh Kwan.

Richard Steven Horvitz reprises his role as the voice of Alpha 5, with Barbara Goodson voicing Robo-Rita.

Austin St. John (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger I), Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger I), and the late Jason David Frank (Jason David Frank/Green Ranger) will not be part of the Special, but the trailer confirms we will, at least, see the morphed versions of their iconic characters.

Also, unfortunately, since the Special was filmed prior to Frank's sudden passing last December, it's probably unlikely they were able to make any significant changes to the story, but we would imagine he'll be honored in some way as well.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always starts streaming exclusively on Netflix on April 19.

Check out the official trailer below:

In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, 30 years after the wise and powerful Zordon formed the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the team comes face-to-face with a familiar threat from the past. In the midst of a global crisis, they are called on once again to be the heroes the world needs. Inspired by the legendary mantra from the franchise “Once a Ranger, always a Ranger,” Once & Always reminds everyone when you become a Ranger, you are always a part of the Ranger family and always welcome.

should have roboticized the entire Rita design

the robot head in the dress with a wig just looks weird

@dracula - If they were taking this 100% seriously, then id 100% agree.

But they show was always goofy. This Robo Rita is no more silly than a Warlord made of metal and muscle or her brother who was a skelaton soldier who has half oh himself cover in Camo or her Pig, Goat and Monkey minions. I feel this Robo Rita is something they would have done back then and not now, which means its perfect in a way lol

Awesome trailer. I was nine years old in 1993. Damn, I'm old. I can't wait for the 30th Anniversary Special.

This trailer actually looks good. I mean its no The Last Of Us level upgrade or anything, but i like the more serious tone. Im shocked they actually have Robo Rita kill Trini. That takes balls to green light that creatively. But im actually super excited to be visiting Angel Grove again. If its actually good, and as much as it breaks my heart it would be without JDF, but id love for Netflix to pick up Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as a revival series in the same vein of Cobra Kai, taking a serious approach to the cheesy nostalgia franchise.

Do they explain, or have they already explained how the megazords are back? If I remember correctly, they were destroyed by Lord Zed, and they went to like thunderzords or something. The history of how they made the American version of Power Rangers is fascinating. So many different shows were used over the years.

@PatientXero - I cant be certain, but i know in the other shows the explored the Morphin Grin more and if my memory isnt completly wrong (which it may be) I believe in one of the seasons cross over events The Grid was broken and then Repaired, which allowed all previous Rangers and Rangers not used in American Power Rangers to be featured in that one Mega team up they did a couple years ago with a ton of Legacy Rangers.

I know earlier on before that later stuff, they had like Adam appear and his coin was broken and it was a risk for him to morph, but in later seasons like the Forever Red team up, Jason had his Red Ranger morpher and it was restored.

But im pretty sure one or a couple of the more recent seasons of Power Rangers dealt with the Morphin Grid.

I may be 100% wrong lol

@PatientXero - I mean, the coins were also destroyed, but came back in later appearances. It's possible they found a way to revive the zords if the powers can be brought back. And I'm guessing they'll answer that here. From what I can tell, how Tommy and Jason got their powers back for later team ups has been a lingering question in the community.

@RitoRevolto - not that it needed explained. I was just curious.

@PatientXero - I’m more curious how they explain Billy returning, didn’t he have to be off world to prevent rapid aging? lol
PatientXero
PatientXero - 3/22/2023, 10:06 PM
@SpiderFanMan - I don’t about that. I do remember something was wrong with him and that’s why he couldn’t take the Gold Ranger powers.

So sad about JDF taking his own life.

Please if you know someone or you yourself are struggling, get help ASAP. There is a reason we are all here and you are here. Life is not just meaningless series of pain and you are more than just your feelings or chemicals.

TheVandalore
TheVandalore - 3/22/2023, 1:55 PM
@Lokiwasright - unfortunately Amy Jo Johnson, Austin St. Johns and Jason David Frank all decided not to participate.... which now seeing the level of care they are putting into this reunion kinda pisses me off now.

This was THE reunion, and half the cast passed..... LAME!
dracula
dracula - 3/22/2023, 2:13 PM
@TheVandalore - well for austin it's more like he couldn't because of his current legal situation. cant leave the country
TheVandalore
TheVandalore - 3/22/2023, 2:24 PM
@dracula - I thought i remembered reading or watching on a video that this was in development before his legal issues and turned down appearing, which put a small rif between him and Walter because they stayed in touch and remained close especially doing Cons together and i believe they had a Podcast (i may be wrong). And Austin turning down the reunion was the source of their rif, and that was before he was caught.

@dracula -

At 1:20 is when he begins to discuss the Austin and Walter thing. you are 100% correct. I miss remembered details. My bad. On top of that, its not like this video is even a credible source for anything. Just something that came on while i was letting Youtube play and that part caught my attention.

My fault.

@TheVandalore - Yet Austin St. John came back as Jason in an episode of Power Rangers Beast Morphers (2019).
