POWER RANGERS Concept Art Showcases Alternate Red Ranger And Dinozord Designs

Saban's Power Rangers reboot was a mixed bag for fans and critics; the film received tepid reviews, and though it's had a fairly successful box office run domestically after a month of release, it hasn't done as well overseas. Despite that, the film has taken in $130 million worldwide, and while several sequels are planned, none have been officially announced. Some new concept art for the reboot has now arrived online, courtesy of artist Mauricio Ruiz, which showcases some interesting alternate designs for the Red Ranger, and three of the Dinozords.

Additionally, ComicBook.com caught up with original series actors Walter Jones (Zack/Black Ranger) and David Yost (Billy/Blue Ranger) to ask for their thoughts on the reboot. Jones expressed disappointment the film removed Zack's 'Hip Hop Kido' fighting style. “I was a little disappointed that they changed the characters around a little bit because I wanted Zack to be with his kido because Hip Hop Kido was a really important element of who I was on Power Rangers. I think if they would have added that then there could have been some parkour and there could have been so many other elements to that character that it would have been awesome.”

Yost felt there could have been a little more emphasis on the importance of the Rangers' signature catchphrase. “The only thing I care about progression wise when they do a sequel and they morph they better bring it and they better say ‘It’s Morphin Time.’ When we said, ‘It’s morphing time!,’ it was like, ‘Shit’s about to go down;’ when they said it in the movie it was so lackadaisical I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’”

Both actors also expressed disappointment in the redesigned Megazord, though they had very high praises for the actors playing their respective characters, along with the rest of the cast. What did you think of Power Rangers? Let us know in the comments!

@Vish617 - I know, like I said, they surprisingly made the final product look better.

One looked like it was inspired by the Xenomorphs, and the other looked like they were trying to recreate Lord Zedd =/

@Vish617 - lol even the current suits on film look horrible.

@Vish617 - I like what they ended up with and the movie was fun My only complaint is that they really needed to step up the martial arts action with the rangers. They had a bit but the movie needed a lot more of that as it's what really made me into a fan in the first place.

Can't believe I'm gonna say this, but thank God they went with the final designs for the suits. And I never say that about concept art anymore.

Anyway, those suits are awful, and I'm glad they didn't go with them. If anything (and I can't believe I'm saying this), they make the final product suits that they when with a million times better (although they're still shit as well, but better shit than the rejected costumes).

Also those zords looks straight up out of the anime Zoids

Typos, and missing thoughts =/

Any way you put it, those suits are awful, and I'm glad they didn't go with them.*

If anything, they make the final product suits that they went with a million times better.*

Minus my extended thoughts in parenthesis of course... I really wish I could edit my comment, but I'll just leave my posts as they are, just this once =/

That Red Ranger looks awful, movie suits were way better than those, but those Zords look great, especially the sabretooth tiger one, much better than what appeared in the movie.

Not a fan at all of the suit designs.

Especially the first. Looks like a baby grew into the suit after their parent pushed in the soft spot at the top of the head.
Other ones, look like they tried to mesh another Sentai concept with their Alien origin (example. Last one reminds me of Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad: Ultra Act Gridman)

However (put the story and the events on the sideline). If they made the designs of the Zords the final product, it would have drawn me in a bit more to have faith in this adaptation. I seriously don't understand how they felt like the final product with the Zords was better than these concepts.

Still sad that they didn't make the movie 50/50. We could've gotten something like this.
