Go Go Power Rangers!

Boasting an outstanding "A" Cinemascore and a positive word-of-mouth amongst viewers, Lionsgate's Power Rangers reboot is exceeding expectations at the box office with a $15 million-plus haul on Friday and is now on track for a stellar $42 million opening weekend, possibly even higher if it has a strong Saturday.

The Dean Israelite-directed feature will firmly finish in second place, way ahead of both Sony Pictures' Life and Warner Bros.' CHiPS, which both failed to make much of a mark yesterday, raking in just $4.3 million and $2.6 million, respectively.

With a production budget of just over $100 million, this is an excellent start for the potential franchise-launcher and if it continues to outperform projections worldwide, we could be getting an official announcement about that sequel much sooner than later.

Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios' Beauty and the Beast, which stars Emma Watson & Dan Stevens, continues to be a box office juggernaut, pulling in around $24 million yesterday and should rake in around $81M-90M in its second frame, which will bring its domestic haul to well past $300 million.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

I'm a lifelong Ranger and Sentai fan ...and I thought it was much better than decent. They let it be a character driven story, and I think that was a smart move. It didn't matter that ALL THE ACTION was at the very end, because you were invested in these kids and their struggles to work as a team. Elizabeth Banks was fun, and there wasn't a bad performance. It was a really good start to the franchise.

Cast Joe Keery as the Green Ranger and we are set for a fantastic sequel.

@grif - I'm a ranger fan I enjoyed the hell out of this crap lol. It's different but still the same ol PR. Only downside is the almost overbearing teen drama but it's forgivable

PR's are not my cup of tea. But with that production budget, this will most likely get a sequel. Unless something drastically goes wrong.

I wonder if Disney regrets letting go of the Power Rangers franchise, they could've had ANOTHER potential big movie franchise on their hands.
and I'm really glad is doing well, I hope to see it next week.

@Spidey91 - Can't really blame Disney, the interest in the franchise had been waning over years and they just didn't see it as a worthwhile investment at that time.
At least they manage to produce some great seasons under their era.

I am not proud of seeing this in theaters last night...

It was nothing but a snoozefest...

@Melkac - I hate most people and most people aren't my friends. Me and my 5 friends sat there wondering if we would just leave. It was boring and that finale was extremely underwhelming.

@MrNegative - Good for you and your five friends man, but like I said, most people disagree with you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
