POWER RANGERS Originally Had A Different Post-Credits Scene According To Writer John Gatkin

While Power Rangers fans anxiously await word on a potential sequel, it's been revealed that the post-credit scene at the end of the movie that teased a second film could have looked a lot different.

Power Rangers had a bit of a rough go at the box-office, but home release and rental sales are looking to salvage the film for a second installment. A sequel may be in doubt, but that wasn't the case when the film was released.

Like most movie franchises in this day and age, the film contained a post-credit scenethat teased a follow-up. The scene is the Rangers sitting in detention going through roll call when the teacher calls out for Tommy Oliver. No one answers to the name but the camera pans in to a green jacket on an empty chair.

The original version of the scene in the script played out very differently, according to writer John Gatkin. During the audio commentary for the film, transcribed by Comic Book, Gatkin revealed it was originally a fight that introduced us to the future Green Ranger. “Well we were going to have that there was a brawl in the lunch room," said Gatins "And a couple of our kids saying: 'Man, what happened?' 'Dude there was this violent fight. There’s this one crazy kid, the new kid.' 'Which kid, Tommy Oliver?' 'Yeah'. So you would have felt like Tommy dropped into their world.”

Director Dean Israelite chimed in that in this version of the post-credit scene you still wouldn't have seen Tommy. He also revealed that it just didn't make a lot of sense, “It didn’t work to be in this cafeteria where we had only spent one second [of the movie] in.”

The original post-credit scene is not included on the blu-ray special features, so there's a high likelihood that is wasn't even shot. As of right now there is no news on a potential Power Rangers sequel, but make sure to check out the Scifi section of the CBM Index for the latest.

Fun movie that i'd love to see more of tbh. All the actors were good, besides Becky G....so if they do another one, hopefully she improves.

It was a good film, and does not deserve the hate it's getting from people. I'd love to see a sequel, and the Green Ranger. And people are full of shit if you think that the '95 movie was better than Power Rangers 2017.

I enjoyed it. But I think there are some easy changes that can be made to increase the popularity of the sequel if it gets one.

Please give it a rest with the idea of a sequel, The movie sucked and it doesn't matter what the end credit scene was because it doesn't deserve a sequel.

Not a Power Rangers fan, as it came out when I was in high school. Just don't know too much about it other than watching that first season before going to school in the morning. That being said, I watched the movie a couple weeks back and thought it was pretty good.

My only criticisms are I felt the movie dragged a bit as far as them training/getting their full powers and the lighting was too dark. Just felt it could have been a bit brighter instead of so muted out. It just gave it too dark of a tone, similar to Man of Steel. I saw a video of how someone brightened the colors in MoS and it looked 100x better.

I loved the movie and can't believe it's probably not gonna get a sequel. But i also own a red ranger costume and watched the old movie get made in kiama so my judgment is pretty bias.

Why are we still getting articles on this boring, trash ass movie?

It was a solid 7/10 film. However, I do hope they stop going down the Snyder-ish desaturated look for the colour route in the sequels. It just doesn't fit the Power Rangers at all. Hell, it didn't fit Superman either.
