It's Morphin' Time!
The Hollywood Reporter has learned today that Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are in the very early stages of development on a brand new
Power Rangers movie with Jonathan Entwistle (
The End of the F---ing World) eyed to direct and Patrick Burleigh (
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway) penning the script.
The new film will be a hard reboot of the franchise, meaning, as expected, it will not be a continuation of the 2017 live-action film from Lionsgate, which grossed approximately $142 million on an estimated $100 million production budget.
While plot details are being kept locked away at the Command Center for now, the film is said to involve time-travel and will see the teenagers with attitude transported back to the 1990s - coincidentally the golden age of the franchise - where they'll have to work together to find a way to get back to the present. This is also likely where we'll see them obtain their powers and meet the villain of the picture.
With a '90s setting, it remains to be seen whether the new movie will tie into any of the Zordon-era series, namely the original
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but it's a possibility that can't be ruled out just yet.
