POWER RANGERS Shared Universe Officially In The Works At Netflix With Movies And TV Shows

We've been hearing rumblings about this for a while, but it's now been confirmed that a shared universe of Power Rangers movies and TV shows are coming to Netflix. Find more details after the jump!

Last year, Entertainment One unexpectedly acquired Hasbro in a $4 billion deal that, for the most part, generated nowhere near as much media attention as Disney buying Marvel and Lucasfilm for the same amount. Regardless, the studio is now moving forward with a greater number of movie and television projects based on the toy maker's library, with Power Rangers a main priority.

Former HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo is now serving as EOne's President of Global Television, and a deal has been struck with Netflix for an entire slate of projects with these characters.

Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) is overseeing this venture - which was confirmed several months ago - and Lombardo has now shared an update with Deadline. "Since we set up Power Rangers with Jonathan, we pitched really a whole-world approach," he explains.

"It’s not just one show, it is shows followed by films, some kids’ programming. We have found a great writing partner for him, they are off. Knock on wood, Netflix is excited, we’re excited, we hope to have some news soon." That's an ambitious approach, but one the Power Rangers franchise could greatly benefit from following that disappointing big screen reboot a few years ago.

This would give Netflix another popular IP to attract subscribers with, and there's a tonne of potential for the Power Rangers to inhabit a shared Marvel Cinematic Universe-style world. We'll see how it develops (and whether there's enough interest to justify an entire slate), but fingers crossed.

Are you excited for the return of Power Rangers?

Would be more interesting if its a Hasbro shared universe. Lot of stuff there that could work.

The only Power Rangers show I watched as a kid was SPD. I'm obviously bias but I still think it's by far the best season from what I've seen.

@Gotham82 - my oldest is about to have a kid, making me a grandfather, and I watched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when I was young.

Yeah.... let that sink in.

At least the budget won't suffer since Power Rangers has never been known for its special effects. And I know this is a kids' show, but I haven't been crazy about the recent seasons. They seem very much pre-school in comparison to the Power Rangers I grew up with. It's always been cheesy and kiddie, but now it's just dialed up to 20. Give us something in the same vein as In Space!

There is so much potential here (Shattered Grid). I truly believe Netflix is the right partner here. If the show can hit all the right marks I can see the show picking up a fan base quick given the nostalgia.

Just put out a good product and let the rest figure itself out.

100% Down with this. To be fair the current Boom comics have felt like a very modern Netflix-ish reinvention.

Meng'er Zhang is my choice to play Repulsa. After Shang Chi, she needs to appear in more projects and I think this is a great opportunity.

Always smart to announce your shared universe before making anything, like the critically acclaimed dark universe!

I was obsessed as a kid, I watched up until the ninja one I think. I hope this is good, personally I enjoyed that last movie that came out and hoped we’d get more but I’ll give this a chance

@Waddles - the space one was the last one I watched all the way through I kinda aged out after that

@Waddles - Wow I just looked up the seasons and I actually watched more than I though. I made it through all of time for and started to dip out with wild force. I only remember Ninja Storm bc my little brother watched it and I was firmly out by that point as I would have been around 10 when it came out in 2003. Crazy to think that was almost 20 years ago

@Waddles - I remember watching it and being amazed at the production quality compared to the show and use of CGI…. This was that CGI lol
