POWER RANGERS: Widow Of Jason David Frank Details Tommy Actor's Final Night And Debunks Tabloid Reports

The news that Power Rangers legend Jason David Frank had died last month hit fans of the franchise hard. However, the tabloids have since churned out endless attention-grabbing headlines in an attempt to piece together what happened on the night the 49-year-old took his own life.

Now, the late actor's wife, Tammie Frank, has set the record straight in an interview with PEOPLE (via SFFGazette.com). She explains that a number of incorrect assumptions about their relationship have been made in the press and, while it's true that Jason died by suicide, that was reported without confirmation following his passing.

"It has shocked and saddened me beyond belief to see that the media has turned my family's tragedy into a tall tale," she starts. "Since Jason's death, I have been harassed online and can no longer stand to watch my husband's good name slandered."

"I loved my husband, and we were trying to work through our problems. His death comes as much a shock to me as anyone else. The truth is, I had no idea that Jason was thinking of ending things. Yes, he had struggled with mental health issues and depression before, but I could never predict what would happen that night."

Tammie explains that they had gone away for a fun weekend getaway in order to reconcile after getting back together six weeks prior following a brief separation. They chose to stay in different rooms due to Jason's snoring, and that any noise people claim to have heard was "us enjoying the weekend and having some fun - not arguing or fighting."

"We danced and stayed out at the event until the bar closed. When we got back to the hotel, Jason and I were having a heartfelt and emotional talk in his room," she recalls. "To help Jason relax and sober up before turning down to sleep, I went downstairs to get us snacks from the lobby. I must've been gone no more than 10 minutes."

"I went back upstairs and began knocking on the door to no answer. I knocked repeatedly and kept calling for his name to open the door. I don't know if the hotel staff or a guest called the police, but after I was taken downstairs by the police, they were able to open the door and found that Jason took his life."

She concluded by confirming that the loss of her daughter, Shayla, contributed to their marital issues and Jason's own struggles with his mental health, so it's a sad situation all around.

The actor, best known for playing the Green/White Ranger, Tommy Oliver, in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show, was a hit on the convention circuit and returned to reprise that role on a number of occasions, despite only initially being eyed for a relatively small role in the franchise. His impact was that big. Our thoughts once again go out to his family at this time.

His ex wife's husband took him to court like a month ago, I'm sure that was a catalyst. Plus he lost his daughter earlier this year. Either you think it's very brave, or incredibly selfish, it affects everyone. I happen to think the latter, everyone has bad days and most people have mediocre to troublesome lives. Denying your friends and family the choice of seeing said person anymore is selfish. I have a suicidal friend who I care dearly about, and I feel like i have to constantly cheer him up. You're never alone. Now some send this to doc lol

Good Lord that’s tragic. I can’t even imagine to have someone gone like that within minutes. I have no idea why anyone would automatically blame his wife for what happened, the internet is a very cruel place at times.

As for Jason… this is still unreal to me. I grew up knowing that Tommy wasn’t just a Power Ranger, he was THE Power Ranger. The face of an awesome franchise for kids with great fun and life lessons. This really really hurts along with Kevin Conroy a few weeks earlier. It’s never easy with a hero’s passing.

Heres to the Green Ranger!

Wow.. harrowing story. I didn't know it was a suicide. Seen two people close to me try within the last year and they were seemingly happy. Tough situation

@dragon316 - You know, I was scratching my head about that one. Maybe it’s because of the circles I’m in where I am more likely to run into a fan then not, but I haven’t seen any slander about this guy.

@ScaryTerry - People have made her life hell on her Instagram and she didn’t say anything but I’ve read comments of people calling him weak or selfish and sounds like that’s where she drew the line

I absolutely hate this happened. As I do believe they were trying to work it out I also think the truth is between what she is saying and the reports. I say that because the statements from the staff were that they were fighting and had to be broken up not simply noise complaints. And I do know that some take there lives with already making the decision no matter what; I find it odd if they were having a great time they he would just do it right then. Either way I in no way blame her and fans should leave her alone.

Man that's so tragic. I can't imagine going through this and then having to deal with being harass by everyone. She shouldn't even need to explain anything to anyone.

Absolute tragedy, Jason David Frank was my hero when I was a kid and I still admired him as an adult. It just goes to show you that you really don't know what's going on in someone's head. Every convention and interview I saw of him he was always so upbeat, whether it be talking about martial arts or telling everyone a funny story from behind the scenes life at the show. Deep down he must have been suffering terribly. I hope that people leave his family alone. To me and most everyone else he was the Green Ranger but to them he was their father and husband, they deserve privacy and support as they mourn.
