ATTACK THE BLOCK Director Joe Cornish In The Running To Helm STAR TREK 3?

While he's apparently just one of many names being considered at this early stage, Attack the Block director and Ant-Man writer Joe Cornish is the first director to be linked to the third instalment in the Star Trek franchise which J.J. Abrams will be unable to helm due to his Star Wars commitments.

He worked on the The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Ant-Man screenplays, and made his directorial debut with the brilliant British sci-fi/horror movie Attack the Block. However, it is now being reported by Latino-Review's Elmayimbe that Joe Cornish is on the shortlist of filmmakers that Paramount and Bad Robot are considering as a replacement for J.J. Abrams. A third instalment in the franchise is far from confirmed at this point, especially after Star Trek Into Darkness' disappointing opening in North America. However, the studio ARE reportedly quite keen to get Star Trek 3 in theatres by the time the series celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2016. As J.J. Abrams will be far too busy with Star Wars Episode VII to work on that film, expect to hear more about any possible replacements over the coming weeks and months! What do you guys think?

There was another article on here yesterday where JJ says he'd be open to a 3rd if the studio decides to make one and the story works.

It's the writers...it's the story. There needs to be a reason to tell the tale. That's where the biggest problem is.

However, I would also add very poor set and prop design.

Neil Blomkemp would've been a FRESH, Exciting & "Bold" guy to be chosen for STAR WARS!
But JJ is great enough to make a Great if not different enough STAR WARS 7!

Neil would be awesome for Trek!

But my No.1 pick is RIAN JOHNSON... Looper director!!
His Multi layered story will be nice uplift of JJ straight forward (though amazing) plots!!

RIAN JOHNSON, NEIL BLOMKEMP or some one with but of experience cuz they'll be making STAR TREK 3, not a restart... Responsibility & Expectations will be huge!!

Josh Wilding is a smart man, he made sure he didn't mention ElMayimbe's name in the stinger, so people would not refrain from clicking on it.

You got us all, Josh !

Elmayimbe was the first to disclose that Khan was in Star Trek 2, probably should go with him on this as well.

Can we stop posting articles about rumors from El Mayimbe? A puddle of urine is probably a more reliable source than him.

disappointment?? tell me when star trek movies were huge box office hits. ok the last one grossed 257 million in the USA but the overall box office was only 385 million, I bet this one will make over 400 million. Into Darkness might not make more than the previous movie in the USA but will at least pass 200 million. Give me a Marvel Stuios movie besides the Iron Man series and Avengers that crossed 200 million in thE USA. None.

Once Star Wars movies start coming out again, Paramounts Star Trek will have even less people interested in staying with the franchise. JJ basically started and killed their baby.
