Is Universal Studios Planning A STAR TREK Themed Land For The Rumored 4th Park In Orlando?

Following the opening date reveal for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, sources close to Universal reveal that they're planning a themed land for fellow sci-fi franchise, Star Trek. Find out more after the jump.

This week saw the reveal that Disneyland's Star Wars themed area, Galaxy's Edge, would open to the public in Summer 2019, and now it's being reported that Universal may well be including a Star Trek land in their long-rumored 4th park in Orlando, Florida.

Sources close to DisneyAndMe have confirmed recent comments made by Lance Hart from Screamscape, who spoke last month about a new Star Trek show that would be coming to Universal and they also made mention of a Star Trek area.

"Lance is correct that a live stage show is getting shuffled between the Bourne Identity or Star Trek, and a Star Trek sci-fi area is being highly consideed to hit back WDW DHS Star Wars land. If Universal does a Star Trek sci-fi area it will be very sci-fi city-like and not too alien planet like most would think. And with an anchor attraction. And maybe something very similar to the recently announced Transformers area that's going to be in Universal Beijing"

This "non-planet" area with an "anchored attraction" doesn't sound too dissimilar to the planned Landmark Entertainment designed USS Enterprise that was going to exist in Las Vegas a few years ago. Whether Universal's plans are anything to that cost or scale remains to be seen but with the franchise back on its feet in both film and television, now might be the time to fork out the money.

This isn't the first time that Universal has gone in on a Star Trek attraction, as the studio had a live-action stage show called Star Trek Adventures back in the late 1980's and the beloved Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton that ran from 1998 to 2008, which sorely missed by fans who have been clamouring for something similar since. Maybe this is it.

What do you think? Would you like a Star Trek area at Universal? What would you like it to be like? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Its slightly offtopic, but I went to Florida and to Disneyworld's Animal Kingdom. Gotta say that the Avatar attraction is amazing. I think I have rather Avatar than Harry Potter. Still plan on visiting Universal one day, so maybe this one wins me over

Universal do an outstanding job with Halloween horror nights, They could take advantage of the darker scifi elements Trek have, Disney are Disney, Star Wars land will be Fluffy Ewoks and Porgs, A Halloween horror night trying to move down a section of a Borg cube, maybe a Borg or Klingon attack on a Starship, corridors, Jefferies tubes, cool.

food n' drinks in 10 forward, drinks n' gambling in Quarks, I'd be on board.

@ARMUS - There are some pretty horrifying things in Star Wars. Most of the characters whose names start with "Darth", sarlaccs, wampas, the werewolf-looking guy in that Mos Eisley scene, the tentacle monster in the trash compactor, rancors, Mother Talzin, undead nightsisters of Dathomir, those toothy monsters in Attack of the Clones that were trying to eat Anakin and Padme, and I know I'm forgetting some things. Oh, the brain worms from Clone Wars, "undead" geonosians.. and throw in a zillo beast I guess.

one I forgot. Dark Ashoka. She was downright scary. And yet, weirdly .. attractive..

which reminds me, The Son of Mortis. That guy was like the prince of darkness.

I love Star Trek, but I think it's past it's prime to be marketable. People don't care about it anymore, not like they used to.

@SmokingMan - Star Trek has never been marketable, but it's always had a big following, Discovery this past year has been either the first or second most discussed subject on social media according to stats, I myself am not a huge fan of Discovery but it has a fan base, Netflix also say Star Trek is their most popular SCIFI franchise, one of the reasons they plowed so much cash into Discovery, it's on air everywhere in the World through reruns, it's still very popular, but not like Star Wars, Star Wars was built on Toys, advertising with companies like McDonalds, Cola, toys everywhere, Trek don't do that, they never felt their brand of SciFi was for kids, so very little toys, we don't see it on school bags so assume it's not popular. It's definitely not as big as it was in the 90's though.

@ARMUS - No man, I know what you mean completely. Trek has always been nerdier than Star Wars. And kids would rather have a fairy tale in space than an adventure or exploration of a fictional species who has an Ayn Rand-esque problem. It's just how it is. And I like Star Wars too. I'm hoping this is a cool attraction park.

If anyone can pull this off it's universal studios. Their parks are way more fun than anything Disney has unless you are going simply to take your young children.

It's so weird being solidly an ex-trekkie and seeing it continue from that viewpoint. I used to be so into it all when I was younger. That optimistic vision Gene Roddenberry used to talk about, I now know it to be an optimistic vision for a future ruled by authoritarian nation states, and that's not a future I can feel happy about. What we need is less worship of rulers and more actual freedom.
