Screen and sci-fi legend Leonard Nimoy, most recognized for his long-running role as everyone's favorite Vulcan, Mr. Spock, took to his Twitter account to confirm that despite quitting smoking for the last 30 years he has contracted chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The actor further took to twitter to encourage his followers (over 800k) to stop smoking to better avoid health risks.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an umbrella term for a number of illnesses including emphysema and chronic bronchitis, and affects millions of people around the world.
