PENNY DREADFUL Actor Shazad Latif Joins The Cast Of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY As A Klingon Commanding Officer

There's going to be a new Klingon commanding officer aboard the ship in CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery, and he might just be someone familiar to fans of both the original series and Deep Space 9...

Deadline reports that British actor Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful, Spooks, MI-5) has been cast as a Klingon officer named Kol in Star Trek: Discovery. Fans of the original series will probably remember a Klingon named Koloth played by the late William J. Campbell from the "Trouble with Tribbles" episode, with Campbell reprising the role many years later in Deep Space 9. Though it's not likely to be the same character, it's possible he'll be related somehow, or it may just be an homage.

Latif joins the previously announced Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, and Michelle Yeoh as Starfleet captain Georgiou.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere in May of next year.

UPDATE: EW adds that two more actors have also joined the cast as Klingon characters. Chris Obi (Roots) will play T’Kuvma, "a leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses," while newcomer Mary Chieffo will play L’Rell, "the Battle Deck Commander of a Klingon ship."

@grif - Klingons were kinda White in the 60´s when they were supposed to be russians, then they became black in the 90´s and now they´ll become arabians.
