READY PLAYER ONE's Simon Pegg Doesn't Think That Quentin Tarantino Will Direct The New STAR TREK Movie

Quentin Tarantino may not be paying a visit to the final frontier after all.

Late last year we got word that the Pulp Fiction filmmaker had wowed Paramount and J.J. Abrams with his idea for a new Star Trek film and was a shoe-in to direct, and since then it was revealed that The Revenant scribe Mark L. Smith was on board to pen the script.

Everything seemed to be on track, but just last night Spock actor Zachary Quinto revealed that there are actually three different scripts in play, and now Simon Pegg has admitted that he doesn't see Tarantino finding the time to spearhead the project.

Here's what the Ready Player One actor had to say during an interview with The Playlist.

“I don’t think Quentin is going to direct it, because he’s got in his California movie [‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’] to do and then I think only doing one more film after that. And I doubt, I don’t think he could get around to directing a Star Trek in two-three years.”

Pegg's comments are sure to disappoint Trek fans, but there is always a chance Tarantino will find a way to make it work and sit in the director's chair after all.

He is most surely not directing it. That he even wrote a script for one is unexpected in many many ways.

My idea for the new cast is to take a TNG element and introduce it to the rebooted Trek films. They already said everything has changed and is possible now, what better way than to introduce a character the classic Enterprise crew never met...

My first choices are the Borg, or Q/The Q Continuum. To me the story basically writes itself, I don't see why Hollywood has such issues with this franchise??

@xfan320 - and Q would be the perfect way to have Kirk meet his Father without yet another silly time travel device in a Trek film.

Yo Paramount! give me a call! We can have FOUR scripts going!

@IronGenesis - Awesome fancast. I've always imagined Elijah Wood would make a cool Data though.

I'd rather a Tarantino Star Wars film. Make an R rated Pulp Fiction style movie about the underworld of smugglers, bounty hunters, and gangsters. I realize Disney wouldn't want it to be R rated but I think Tarantino's style could be a lot of fun and make for a very different Star Wars movie.

I'll admit, there are a plenty of others I'd rather make a Star Trek film than Tarantino.

With that being said, I'd really like to see/hear some of the dialogue he would've written for these characters.

Beyond was nothing more than Fast & Furious in space. Tarantino would have the most epic beam down scene - picture some awesome 70' music blaring while they slo-mo walk on the planets surface.

If he does do it I reckon he'll loophole it so that it doesn't count toward his "10 Movies" rule.

And if he does do it I bet we get Shatner back.
