Star Trek premiers in the USA Thursday at 7pm in 3,800 theaters. The movie will be released in every major market except for Japan and Mexico. Japan will get Star Trek next week sometime although Mexico will not be as lucky due to the flu outbreak.

Paramount has takeing a pretty good beating for trying to relaunce the once successful franchise but this time around they are trying to attract new fans as most of our younger generation knows nothing about the Star Trek universe. Same thing can be said regarding foreign audiences whom never have been big fans of the Star-Trek franchise.

In response to trying to apeal to a broader audience and get more people involved Paramount has launched the biggest international publicity campaign in all of its history for "Star Trek," directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. The script was written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

There also have been a number of pre-release screening, including Austria, New Zealand, Belgium, Holland and Madrid. Also, Abrams traveled to Kuwait to host a screening for U.S. troops. Cast members have attended many of these pre release screening.

"The publicity campaign is the most sustained and the most in-depth that I can ever remember," Paramount head of international distribution Andrew Cripps said. "We've had incredibly supportive filmmakers who understand that they need to get the word out," Cripps said.

Its pretty hard to nail down the reason for the lack of intrest foreign movie goers have for Star Trek. Some say its because the original TV show only aired in the US, UK, Austraila and Germany.

Of all the original Star Trek movies "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" made $109.7 million domestically, the best in North America of any of the 10 films. "Voyage's" international income was $23.3 million. This time around Paramount is looking to cash in. To be a success the studio is saying the movie needs to gross 100 million overseas and 100 million Domestiacally. This new Star Trek film looks like it is a real life interpretation of Earth having a Star Fleet. This film will hopefully be gritty and have a realistic tone leaving the perfect way we interpret our future in the past.

This film will easily make the most money out of all the star trek films. Not just because of its marketing campaign, but because of the young cast and new effects. I hope it turns out great. My favorite up to this point was First Contact.

this movie will rool, without a doubt. As for whether or not it will make $200 mil. dollars, I am not real sure but I DO suspect that it will be a critical success. That's always a plus.

Why are you talkin to me man?

LOL
Man you got me laughing at work !!!!
i think everyone will make fun of that line in the movie.

1. Wrath of khan
2. First Contact
3. Nemisis (ducking down!)

haaa haaa
I wonder if we will see any klingons at all in this one...knowing Abrams...I can see a end of the movie cameo of Klingons...

orci and Kutzman write some good stories...from lost to even Fringe they are deep writers and pay attension to details...

I think paramount was very very wise to wait and launch this movie in May vs. last x-mas....

I think even tho it is good...it would have made maybe 20% or more less...

Now its an anchor for some of the hotest summer movies...

Id didn't care about the movie, but the Fringe tie in got me all excited.

I was surprised to see that the movie is about time travel, haven't they done that before? Are all the Star Trek movies related to time travel?

Cuz i seem to know a little about everything and not enough about anything. and no i am not one of those Butch Dyke kinds ya know, although alot of my friends are. And if you have been with someone who is has major childhood abandomement issues and you love then wildly for 5 years and there is still no helping her anger or chaos and out of control emotions and sadness, you learn to appreciate a woman for what they are and this one happens to be on hot piece o a$$ ! and thats word homey! And i love star wars so much so i really liked FanBoys just cuz of the Carrie Fischer kiss scene. Wish that was me! oh and no grandmas here my place is tight yo!Hey i am a painter and i like nice things and Fast Cars. Hell i own a 71 Buick Riviera that is my baby! seriously though i am not braggin. I love this site and all on here , it is my escape . it is not girly and you all know way more than i so thanks all. I just love my freakin car! please dont take this one as braggin. but i love being hot, i love hot girls, my 300Z 1986 car, all my stuff , my dog Pikachu (yellow Pomeranian) and I LOVE ALL THINGS COMIC BOOK RELATED!!!! AND I LOVE ART AND SNOWBOARDING, GOD I LOVE SNOWBOARDING! and if anyone is reading this , i apologize, maybe i just needed a little affirmation after last nights descission and realization. OH yeah and my culture and crystals too... oooh and going out of body and flying in my dreams too. I've never really been a Trek fan....My dad used to watch Deep Space Nine, but that's really all I know about it. Yet, this new movie has me really pumped. Mind you, part of that could be because I want to see what else Zachary Quinto can do. He's my fave in Heroes!

As for this Chris Pine fella, I saw him on the cover of a magazine when I was at Wal-Mart the other day & just the way he looked screamed out Captain America to me! Anyone else think he'd make a good Cap? Guess I'll have to see how his acting is in Star Trek :)
spideysweb
spideysweb - 5/7/2009, 4:06 PM
He's definitely too short and small to be cap Runefyst.
