According to EW, The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green (The Good Wife, Once Upon a Time) has been cast in the lead role in CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery. Though her character's name is not revealed, she will be breaking tradition and not playing a captain, but a lieutenant commander.

31-year-old Martin-Green, who will be the first African-American woman to lead the cast of a Star Trek ensemble, is still expected to appear as a series regular on The Walking Dead.

As previously reported, the rest of the crew will be played by Doug Jones (Lt. Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Stamets), Michelle Yeoh (Starfleet Captain Georgiou), and Shazad Latif as a Klingon officer named Kol.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere in May of next year.

Not sure about this casting yet. She's annoying as f*ck on TWD.

@SuperCat - Her characters used to annoy me but not so much anymore. She's a very good actress though.

@RorMachine - Yeah, maybe her character was meant to be vexatious on TWD. Don't think I've seen her in anything else. Hopefully, her character will be likable on this show.

@SuperCat - man I hate when that happens. I know that when an actor leaves a show their going to find other work, but when their on a show like the walking dead and leave it it's because their character is going to die. That's how people knew glen and Abe were goners.

Has successfully accomplished what many other actors and actresses have failed to do on TWD with the transition from comics to TV and that is make us care about a character that is new to the source material and has not seemed out of place, she has a role on part of the team.

Daryl is one example, I am having a hard time thinking of others at this time.
