UPDATE: THOR And X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Scribes Reportedly Hired To Co-Write STAR TREK 3

A new report suggests that screenwriting duo Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor) have been hired to write the next Star Trek movie alongside Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Plus, will J.J. Abrams drop out of Star Wars: Episode VII?

According to Badass Digest, Paramount and Bad Robot have hired new writers to join Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on the next Star Trek film. Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz, who previously worked on Thor and X-Men: First Class, have come aboard to work on the threequel, after previously collaborating with Bad Robot on Fringe. Orci and Kurtzman were said to bed instrumental in making this decision, and Badass Digest is unsure of how exactly they will be involved. Paramount hopes to release Star Trek 3 in 2016, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the sci-fi franchise.

Just when production begins is a question. There is still hope that J.J. Abrams will direct (despite being attached to Star Wars: Episode VII, which is targeting a 2015 release), which Zachary Quinto previously suggested. However, Badass Digest says that they've heard "tons of rumors" from "multiple insiders" that the director is on the verge of departing Disney's hotly anticipated sequel, some as recently as San Diego Comic-Con this past week. He apparently didn't want to film in England, and the studio overruled him. Take this info with a big grain of salt, and stay tuned to CBM for more news on both Star Trek 3 and Star Wars: Episode VII.

UPDATE: A rep from Lucasfilm reached out to IGN to comment on the rumor suggesting that J.J. Abrams will drop out of Star Wars: Episode VII, saying that it's false. "There is no truth to the rumor. JJ is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year."

Popular theme on this site seems to be: Hate on a movie before it comes out.

I honestly hope JJ is done with Star Trek. I'm tired of Old School Trekkies complaining. After the prequel trilogy, I can't imagine any Star Wars fan complaining about what JJ does with the Star Wars.

Cuban has been smoking too much damn cigars.

Empire Strikes Back is still the best Sci-Fi film of all time and one of the best sequels ever.

Star Trek can't even outgross World War Z.

Brad Pitt is worth more than all of Star Trek.

I hope this rumor is bogus, because while Star Trek Into Darkness is still possibly the best film I've seen this year, and I don't really wanna see anyone other than JJ directing the third, I want to see a well-made Episode VII even more, and he's one of the few available directors that I think are up to the task.

JJ would never leave Star Wars, and i don't think he has that much of an ego, so as to overturn his dream of making a SW film. If anything, i'm sure he's pushing for a compromise, should he give up his endeavor to film elsewhere, if that is an issue at all.

I just want a Star Wars film that's really good, is that too much to ask?

With or without JJ & considering the writers for the 1st two are still on board, it just seems Trek will be the same it's been for the first two. All style, no substance & lens flares.....ALWAYS.....HAVE.....LENS FLARES! lol

So now on this site we can't use BO or RT or Metacritic.

This shit is fixed.

The Empire Strikes Back is the king. No Sci-Fi film tops that.

Hell no film in the MCU tops that.

The Dark Knight could be compared to it. Mainly due to the fact it ended Empire like with the villain winning and the heroes losing.

Why would Abrams leave Star Wars when he just finished the script for it? He's a fool if he does leave.

Hmm. I... don't know how to feel about this.

If it's true that Abrams wants to split from Star Wars, then that's legitimately sad news for Star Wars. It's obvious that Abrams has exactly the kind of storytelling skills that they need to rejuvenate the galaxy far, far away. Hell, he did a great job with the first Star Trek reboot, and I can't say I'll be too sad to see him come back for a third if he does.

Having said that, though, I was kinda disappointed in Star trek Into Darkness. I was hoping that the rebooted franchise could start shifting towards intelligent science fiction now that its been made "cool" again, but the second movie was almost identical to the first: light, fluffy entertainment without anything substantial at its center. I was kinda hoping that the third film could buck that trend-- maybe bring on someone like Duncan Jones, who can do "cool" AND "intelligent" in his sleep... but if Abrams stays aboard, I have a feeling that the third film will be just as fluffy and vapid as the last two.

Like I said, I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Guess I'll have to wait and see if this is even true before I make up my mind.

JJ Abrams Star Trek Movies are great, but better than the Star Wars original trilogy? I don't think so.

Abrams is a Star Wars fan, he's signed on this project, I don't think he would bolt right after they JUST finished the script.

Rian Johnson wouldn't be a too bad of an idea for the third Star Trek movie.

Please don't tell me he's giving up the opportunity of a lifetime because he doesn't want to film in England. -_________________________-

JJ Abrams doesn't wanto to direct Star Wars anymore?
Probably because he has been given a good script for the first time in his life and doesn't know ho to film it...
