VIDEO: Red Letter Media Review STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

Mike is a BIG Star Trek tv series fan (and Jay has..seen it). For that reason they had quite a few issues with many of the movies, including J.J. Abrams' first reboot. How do they feel about this new one? Check out the latest "Half In The Bag" to find out.

Did you ever see the Plinkett review of JJ's reboot? It was pretty glowing, especially in comaprison to the Berman Trek movies.

Grif, you saw this one? I thought you hated JJ Trek.

@Godzilla I blame Orci and Kurtzman more than Lindelof, but yeah this film had such a shit script and they had 4 YEARS.

I find myself in a very specific subgroup of the nerd populace. I actually really liked Into Darkness AND Iron Man 3.

@beane2099, Me too. Lots of hatred out there. I think people analyze and critique too much and Nerd Rage when they don't get EXACTLY what they were expecting. IM3 had its problems but I was still able to enjoy it. I loved Into Darkness.

I thought star trek into darkness was interesting and great. I think it's up there with the first film.

@Godzilla I agree. I think IM3 is the best of the three and their take on the Mandarin was brilliant.

I love Half in the Bag, I'm actually starting to like it better than Plinkett.

I won't deny there were some silly decisions and writing on display in the movie, but I still loved it ..as far as I'm concerned a film can get away with a certain amount of that if it has heart and an engaging set of characters. Put it this way, I enjoyed it more than Iron Man 3!

Star Trek Into Darkness completely OWNs Ironman 3

It's Rotten Tomatoe score reflects it-86%

It owns IM3 in every way -Writing, direction, overall performances, action, visuals etc etc

@beane2099 - His review of 2009 Trek was not glowing, he picked it to pieces for its lack of understanding of any of the basic fundamentals Star Trek. He said it was a fun film but hugely flawed and I agree with him, this shite is not Star Trek, its written way to dumb and caters only for people who have low demands of contrived spectacle.

And why the hell does everyone feel they need to compare this with Iron Man, they aint the same type of film let alone the same freaking ball game. If your gonna compare it with anything then compare it with another scifi flick like Oblivion which is ten times more intelligently written and performed.

Oblivion is basically a mishmash of every single major sci-fi movie that exists aside from maybe Blade Runner! And IM3 has sci-fi elements, it's just not set in space. It's the Summer's other big CBM related movie this year so far so that's why so many comparisons. It also mixes a lot of action and comedy..only (imo) not nearly as well as STID does.

Zilla, it worked for me..I bought Spock and Kirk's friendship, Kirk's death even got me although of course I knew he'd be back. I didn't like the "borrowing" from WOK either and that's a far superior movie, but overall I just really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed IM3 but I was never for one minute on the edge of my seat, nor did I ever think any of the characters were in real peril. It was akin to watching any other action comedy for me.

LOVE that they said "I don't like Kirk." It's true...he's NOT at ALL likable. So many movies lately never work on creating empathy for the characters, they just assume the audience will like certain characters based on who's playing them and/or who the character is (e.g., "It's Capt. Kirk, so OF COURSE you like him!").

Ror is correct on this one.

Into Darkness had at times during the film REAL tension

Ironman 3 had 0 tension, none at all. It was indeed like

watching any other action comedy..

@godzillafahrt-Again, the numbers don't lie

If you do a film and get an 87% overall critics rating

taken from some 226 reviews, if you get that kind of huge

score you have a very good film on your hands-

A level all the way...

Like it or not Star Trek Into Darkness is THE summer film thus far...

@phlegembot-I found Kirk to be quite likeable

I think he is doing a solid job indeed.

Chris Pine is trying to fill some pretty huge shoes as is Quinto and I think they do a great job

The Red Letter Guys like so many others are simply stuck in the past, the old Shatner/Nimoy days.

There is never going to be another Shatner/Kirk -time to move on..

THIS is not a critic, BUT DESPERATE marketing...
STID is a piece of absurd null
Abrams fans can´t accept the truth-STID is a mindless movie-in spite of marketing critics- and a huge fail...

Plinkett rules!

I loved his prequel reviews!

His voice is annoying at first, but the content pays off.

Agree with many.., Kirk should have died to be brought back in the 3rd.

Paramount played it safe.
