It was recently revealed that after the release of Episode IX, we should expect a new trilogy of Star Wars films with the current cast of characters, including Finn. The former First Order storm trooper had a major part to play in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and while a few details have been revealed about his role in The Last Jedi, there is still plenty to speculate.

Some fans have theorised that Finn could have hidden force centric abilities and even become a future Jedi. However, when asked by Digital Spy about whether he'd like the character to be revealed to be one with the force, actor John Boyega had this to say.

“Would I like to be a Jedi? I think it would be more interesting if they had more than one person be a Jedi --- but I think that that is the one of the unspoken laws of Star Wars. They only have one who has to go away and train. [...] I hope it takes an interesting turn; not in terms of being a Jedi, but there are loads more stronger characters in the Star Wars universe that can go up against Jedi and they don't necessarily have to be a Jedi. [...] I would like to explore that more; the whole Boba Fett vibe. I would like to explore that for Finn, but who knows?”

Based on his comments, it sounds like Boyega's character may not be revealed to be force sensitive, though he does still have aspirations to be a force to be reckoned with. Fans may recall that in The Force Awakens Finn already had a short yet epic dual with Kylo Ren and was no match for the young apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke. So, it will be interesting to see whether Finn's power levels do grow in the future.

For now though, based on the latest trailer, we can look forward to a dual, albeit not using a lightsaber, with his nemesis Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, when it arrives on December 15th.

Kylo Ren isn't a Sith apprentice. It's been well documented that Snoke isn't a Sith and they are long gone.
