Most fans assumed that the Terminator franchise was dead after Genisys was released but original director James Cameron once again has the rights to the property and has teamed up with Deadpool director Tim Miller to bring the T-800 back to the big screen. The movie will ignore everything that's happened since Terminator 2and it sounds like we can expect it to ditch complicated time travel too.
During a recent interview, star Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that Terminator 6 (or whatever it ends up being called) will be a new start for the franchise and that it's definitely keeping things simple.
"I think [James] Cameron and Tim [Miller] came up with a concept where they can continue on with the T-800 but make a whole new movie. What they are doing now with this one is basically to just take a few very basic characters, like Linda Hamilton’s character and my character, and dismiss everything else. Just move away from all these rules of the timeline and other characters."
One of the biggest selling points of Terminator Genisys was seeing the T-800 battle a younger version of himself and it sounds like the plan is for this movie to also pit the hero against a stronger, younger foe.
"I think the T-800 model is a really interesting character. He’s a machine, can be destructive, can do things human beings can’t do, but at the same time when newer technology comes along the character is suddenly vulnerable and that makes him even more interesting."
Miller being at the helm of this next Terminator movie definitely points to good things being on the way but whether or not moviegoers will have any real interest in returning to this world remains to be seen.
