In many fans' eyes, Terminator Genisys was the final nail in the coffin for the franchise - but the planned sixth instalment in the classic sci-fi film series might offer a glimmer of hope.

We recently found out that Linda Hamilton would return as Sarah Connor, and now Arnold Schwarzenegger has shared some more info on James Cameron and director Tim Miller's plans for the new project.

TheTerminatorFans.com have posted their findings from the An Experience With Arnold Schwarzenegger event at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham England, and the iconic star had some intriguing things to say about the direction this latest Terminator flick is heading in.

Schwarzenegger revealed that Robert Patrick will not be back as the T-1000. Patrick has previously expressed interest in reprising the role in some capacity, so perhaps we might see him in a future instalment of the new trilogy. We also have confirmation that the final title will not be Terminator 6 (no big surprise there), and that the film will completely ignore the events of Genisys.

This news could be divisive, because while Genisys was poorly received by the majority of fans and critics alike, some feel that those involved shouldn't be able to just continue on like it never existed. Indeed, it's sounding like this new instalment will actually be more of a direct sequel to Terminator 2, in which case Rise of The Machines and Salvation will also be swept under the rug.

What do you guys make of these updates? Do you have any interest at all in another Terminator movie? Let us know in the usual place.

There's a definite franchise fatigue domestically, but the last film made quite alot overseas, and if they re-instate a hard R rating, there's hope they can steer this into the right direction

@BigMikeReviews - What is it with you people who think making films rated R will improve the entertainment value?

@rkshuttleworth - I think it's about the fact that first two Terminator movies were rated R, and the next three movies (which were not that good) were rated PG-13.

I'm not saying that the R rating improves the entertainment value in every example, but it definitely works for the Terminator franchise.

@BigMikeReviews - I hope they do this. Just like the possibility of starting the Alien franchise over past Aliens. I think it could work to back up and do it right. Also, if R worked best then stick with those examples.

@RasAlGhul - One. Broken continuity and solo side stories (i.e Logan) don't count because they aren't meant to carry the franchise.

@MrDandy - Logan counts cuz they use Professor Xavier and of course they reference somethings in the older movies. Logan didn't need to carry the franchise cuz that's where his part ends. But thats just my opinion.....That dumb ass universe is just as screwed up as what DC/WB are doing....

Doesn't even need to be made. Let the icons from T2 remain the icons we remember from the movie. We don't want to see them getting old.
