A sixth entry in the Terminator franchise, which will ignore all the films that came after the universally acclaimed Terminator 2: Judgement Day, will see the return of legendary filmmaker James Cameron to the franchise he started. Cameron, who is serving as a producer on the project while Tim Miller (Deadpool) directs, teased darkness in the upcoming franchise entry.

Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment, Cameron revealed the current working title for the film: “We’re calling it Terminator: Dark Fate. That’s our working title right now.” He also stressed that the franchise is in very good hands under Tim Miller,  saying Miller is "a very willful and opinionated director, and he's got his own ideas for the film. I’m kind of like his Pips — he’s Gladys.

Cameron explained that he had a couple ground rules for his franchise, telling the filmmakers "I can’t be involved in this film at all if Arnold is not in it." Arnold Schwarzenegger will be reprising his role as the iconic T-800 while also portraying the human on which the Terminator is modeled, with Cameron telling IGN, "Arnold's back and he is bad and he is a different Terminator than you've seen before."

Cameron had also strongly recommended that Linda Hamilton reprise her role as Sarah Connor. "Fans are going to want to see her again, and they’re going to want to see what time and dealing with these tragic futures has done to her.” He described Sarah as hardened by and stronger from her experiences, and said Linda "is there to kick ass and take names." Cameron stressed that Sarah is important in passing the baton to the new characters, and that "it's a very female-centric film."

Switching franchises, IGN asked Cameron if he could give Neil Blomkamp a call about reviving his Alien plans, and surprisingly Cameron responded "I'm working on that, yeah." As fans may remember, Blomkamp was working on an Alien 5 film that would have served as a direct sequel to Cameron's universally acclaimed Aliens (1986), only for Ridley Scott to shut those efforts down.

You can see Cameron talking with IGN in the video below while promoting Alita: Battle Angel:

What Cameron's potential involvement in the future of the Alien franchise would mean regarding Ridley Scott's plans to finish his prequel storyline, - plans that were officially put on hold following the underperformance of 2017's Alien: Covenant - s unclear. But with Cameron now one of the biggest filmmakers operating under Disney, his word will likely hold a bit of influence.

Would you be excited to see Neil Blomkamp return to his Alien 5 plans with James Cameron's involvement? Are you looking forward to seeing Terminator: Dark Fate and the new direction Tim Miller and Cameron have taken the franchise?

Bring it!! Terminator 2, the greatest action film ever, and Aliens, an all time great.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I have to say, I didn't like Term2. I think its because whatshisface, that sh*tty actor distracted me so much in it, the guy playing Connor.

But damn...I really want Blomkamp to do Aliens. He's great!

Interesting. Still wanna wait. After the predator, we should all be sceptical even if its one of the original creators involved.

@Origame - Shane Black is a far cry from being like James Cameron.

But I do agree, weve been let down too many times. It shouldn't be this hard to make another great Alien or Predator film.

@HeavyMetal4Life - well yeah but duds can happen even from the best of directors. So many people seem to think that this approach to film making of doing sequels years later somehow has a better concept than just rebooting the film. Either way, its still essentially a remake. Take for example the new halloween movie. Its still an elder warning of the danger of michael myers after he was arrested decades ago only for him to now escape and go on a killing spree that the elder personally tries to stop. There really isnt that much of a difference between the two movies except for the fact one takes place after another.
