Paramount Pulls TERMINATOR: GENISYS Sequel From Their 2017 Schedule

It was probably only a matter of time, but Paramount has just announced that they've replaced the follow-up to the critically panned and under-performing Terminator: Genisys with the Baywatch movie, which has been slotted into the May 19, 2017 release date. More past the jump...

You'd be hard pushed to find too many people that were big fans of Terminator: Genisys. Sure, it had its moments and marked a solid return for Arnold Schwarzenegger as the aging T-800, but overall it has to be considered a pretty big disappointment. Of course that wouldn't matter to a studio as long as the movie made the requisite amount of coin, but since it didn't ($440.6M worldwide but only $90M of that domestically), the follow up has been canned - at least for the time being.

Paramount have removed the planned sequel - which they've been referring to as simply "Terminator 2" - from its May 19, 2017 spot and replaced it with Dwayne Johnson's big-screen Baywatch flick. The studio had also carved out a date for a third Terminator movie, which had been set for release in June of 2018.

Will they return to this franchise at some point? We'll have to wait and see, but something tells me most of you won't be shedding any tears if they don't.

Jurassic World gets a sequel but this likely won't (at least any time soon)?

Sigh.

It's not a great movie but like JW it's dumb fun.

"You'd be hard pushed to find too many people that were big fans of Terminator: Genisys." Don't worry, there is a big fan out there.

So to this news I say this to paramount.

There is no need for any sequel, reboot, reshit, etc...

The franchise should have stopped after the second one. Well I guess it technically did.

Genisys was twice the movie that Jurassic World was. I'd rather watch a TG sequel than a JW sequel.

I mean I guess it is partially fine if this series doesn't continue, the ending was a pretty clear one, despite the post credits scene. I just want this series to continue so my other main main Matt Smith can keep getting work, dude [frick]ing deserves it. GIVE HIM MORE STUFF TO DO!!! This will do till he can be put in marvel or dc. #Mattsmithforbullseye

I meant what I said too. Matt Smith would be a pretty good bullseye.

I didn't HATE the movie, but it wasn't near as good enough as it needed to be, and com pared to the first 2 it was indeed a pile of shite.

Genisys was horrible and having seen it twice can confirm that it kind of put the final nail in the Terminator franchise.
The first two movies were tense and scary, with great villains who felt relentless.
With Michael Biehn's Reese you felt his character had been through the horrors of war, and truely loved Sarah.
Jai Courtney's Reese came across as someone who enjoyed the War and probably shagged loads of women in the resistance.

Also the first two movies are great, I look at the other 3 as being set in some kind of alternative universe and strange what if scenarios.
