TERMINATOR: DARK FATE Hi-Res Images Released As Gabriel Luna's Robotic Villain Gets A Name

Following the release of that action-packed trailer, some images from Terminator: Dark Fate have arrived, and they include a big reveal about who exactly Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is playing,.

It seems fair to say that the first trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate has been met with something of a mixed response, but we simply don't know enough about the movie at this stage to properly judge it either way. The franchise certainly appears to be in safe hands with Tim Miller at the helm, and it may just be a case of Paramount Pictures needing to promote it a little differently.

When Observer caught up with the Deadpool director, he had this to say when asked about John Connor's apparent absence and what he hopes fans take from the movie.

"I think Terminator fans will be happy," he teased. "I just tried to make the best film we could. As a fan, I know there are things people want to see and questions they’d like answered right now. But I’d never ruin that by telling details ahead of the movie. I just think they’ll be happy with it."

The studio has also released some hi-res images, and Gabriel Luna's (who will reprise the role of Ghost Rider on Hulu in the not too distant future) Terminator now has a name!

Find out what it is by clicking on the "View List" button below.

Mackenzie Davis is clearly playing a robot created by Skynet meant to blend in with humans, but she seems convinced that she's real, and that could be where Arnold Schwarzenegger's character comes in - assuming he explains to her that the villainous organisation uses real people as the basis for their machines. Either way, she's pictured here alongside Natalia Reyes.

Sarah Connor's return has generated an awful lot of excitement and with moviegoers demanding badass female leads, it's pretty clear that she will be filling that void. This is an amazing shot, and while Emilia Clarke was fine in the role as a younger version of Sarah, it's good to have the real deal here!

Gabriel Luna's Terminator can clearly replicate himself, and he now has a name: Rev 9. Right now, we don't know what that's referring to, but speculation is running rampant that it could have something to do with the Biblical verse. A combination of both the T-800 and T-1000, he looks pretty damn formidable and could be the coolest villain this franchise has had yet. Well, maybe!

Arnold Schwarzenegger was barely featured in the trailer, so it's good to see him getting some action here. Rumour has it he's playing the human that the T-800 was based on, but could be be Carl, the owner of Carl's Draperies. That would be weird, but it's feasible!

Tim Miller was working with a limited budget on Deadpool, so it will be interesting to see how he handles this leap to blockbuster filmmaking with a massive budget. Should the movie flop, that will set his career back quite considerably and probably means this series is well and truly a lost cause.

For those that have been keeping up with this movie, Arnold supposedly plays BOTH the human the T-800 is based on AND the T-800. Tired of seeing uninformed comments.

@HeavyMetal4Life - The T-800 was sent from the future in his young Arnold form. I suppose that old Arnold is from the present (unless he isn't), how did future Skynet get his appearance? I know time travel, but that seems like too much trouble for nothing.

@Fares - you kind of lost me towards the end there, but what you said in the beginning is likely true and makes sense.

@Fares - yeah even though they're wiping T5 entirely from the proper canon, and not like one couldn't understand that decision, I wonder however if they'll still wind up using the same sort of rationale from it for THIS new movie, of why/how Arnold's cyborg shows his entire aging process.

I don't dislike the design of Luna's new Terminator. Nothing particularly innovative or exciting, but it's solid. It just didn't really look all that good in motion in the trailer.

The footage is as shit as the title.

I hope Sarah does not die in the movie. She has to guide them to where John is hiding.

@Repian -
Rumour is that John is dead and they need to have a new resistance leader - in the form of the female main character.

It's effectively trying the sex-swap reboot approach.

I like Tim Miller, but if there is a sequel to Dark Fate, I want James Mangold as director. After seeing Logan, I am convinced that James can contribute a lot to the Terminator franchise.

Here's a link to Revelation 9, the bible quote that Luna's character *might* be named after:

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Gale Ann Hurd is also one of the creators of the Terminator franchise, too. I didn't realize Cameron and her collaborated so much. I first learned of her prominence in Hollywood through The Walking Dead.

Nice find!

I'd love it if it went back to smaller scale Techno-Horror instead of Blockbuster Big Action Scale. While T2 is great I prefer the original and would appreciate the series going back to the tone of the first one.

@BobGarlen - T2 is a great action spectacle and has aged remarkably well. The first one has some effects that didn't age well at all, but it's still easily my favourite. Something more like the first movie but with the possibilities of today's tech would be awesome. If they used a similar budget to go for scary/unsettling stuff instead of big setpieces - oh yeah!

And they can still have sweet action with the horror. Like, what Leigh Whannell did with Upgrade on an under $10M budget brought me more joy than any Terminator movie after the first two.

So is the REV-9 two Terminators then? An independent inner T-800ish one and an outer T-1000 one?
