The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Diego Boneta has joined the cast of Paramount & Skydance's upcoming Terminator sequel in a key role. Further details are being kept under wraps, but it's been confirmed that he'll be playing a human character.

Boneta joins a cast headlined by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, who will reunite onscreen for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day. As for the newcomers, only Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049) has been cast thus far, in a role that's being described as potentially one of the new faces of the franchise.

Tim Miller (Deadpool) is directing with James Cameron serving as a producer, which marks the first time he's been directly involved in developing a Terminator sequel since 1991. While plot details remain under lock-and-key at Cyberdyne Systems, it has been confirmed that the movie will serve as a direct sequel to the aforementioned T2: Judgment Day.

The tentatively titled, Untitled Terminator Project, is due out in theaters November 22, 2019.

The up-and-coming Boneta is best known for his roles in Rock of Ages, Before I Fall, Pretty Little Liars, 90210, Jane the Virgin and Scream Queens. His upcoming projects include Monster Party and Starbright

Whether role he has he'll be sharing screentime or working with Arnie, that's something not many can say "I did it".

John Connor? I hope so, and hope they don't off him again. That would be stupid.

@Repian -

Dude, that's some great fancasting. Definitely looks the part, and even resembles Michael Biehn, way more than Jai COurtney did, who played Kyle.

@Repian - I seriously want this guy cast as John Connor. Tim Miller/ James Cameron are you listening?

I'll be honest, there's a pretty easy way they could make a sequel to T2, while at the same time rebooting the Franchise (and this is personally what I hope is the direction they are taking) which is confirm that John, Sarah, and the Terminator did destroy Skynet, but now history is kind of repeating itself, and a terminator is sent back to kill a woman before she can give birth to the next hope of the future.

You don't need to undo the destruction of Skynet (you don't even need to call the new evil AI the same name), you can have a new actor portray the killer Terminator and let Arnie pass the torch (not 100% sure how you'd fit him though), and you've got a interesting premise by having Sarah Connor force to protect another young woman who's going through the same situation she did during the first Termiantor movie.

That's just what I would do, but I'd like to think it's a better idea for a Terminator reboot than whats come so far.

@Nerdman3000 -

I'd watch that, sounds interesting and takes the franchise in an interesting direction.

I don't follow this franchise, but Isn't this like the 3rd reboot?

@CavalierTunes - This film negates T3, Terminator Salvation, and Terminator Genisys. It's a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Which is why it's getting a lot of fans excited. James Cameron helped to write and produce and Linda Hamilton is returning as Sarah Connor.

@Timerider84 - wasn’t Genisys also supposed to be a direct sequel to T2?
