Disney Decides To Pull The Plug On TRON 3

Disney Decides To Pull The Plug On TRON 3

Well, this is certainly unexpected. We believed things were truly moving ahead for a third instalment in the Tron franchise, but The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that we won't be returning to the Grid anytime soon. Hit the jump for more details.

Things were looking really positive -- Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski was set to helm a follow-up, with stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde returning as Sam Flynn and Quorra, respectively. The threequel was reportedly set to kick off production later this year, but The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Disney has elected not to move forward with another movie in the series. They say that a third Tron film was never officially greenlit, despite preparations being underway. Tron: Legacy gestated in development hell for over 20 years, and with this news just dropping, it looks like another follow-up will be a long away too. Are disappointed by this, or not too fussed by Disney decision?

I am truly devastated by this news. A third Tron film was something I was anticipating enormously.

SAME!

I was really hoping we would see a lightcycle race/battle in a real world environment when CLU finds a way to escape and comes after Quorra & Sam.

@staypuffed

And I think an "end of line" image or gif is necessary in the article.

Just my unsolicited advice. haha.

Hmm, this should be on main. Instead it's not even popping up in the news section :/

As for the news: dammit Disney. Apparently they got spooked by Tomorrowland's performance. Now instead they're going to focus on live-action adaptations of their fairytales. Including Dumbo.

Now we'll never have closure on what happened to:

Kevin (is he alive somewhere in the grid),

Sam (what does he do with the company),

Edward Dillinger Jr (what is he planning and was he communicating with the MCP or his father?), and the saddest one of all,

Tron (what happened to him in the Sea of Simulation).
