Olivia Wilde Confirms That TRON 3 Will Follow Quorra In The Real World

Things are certainly moving ahead with Disney’s third Tron film (rumoured to be subtitled Ascension), as Tron: Legacy star Olivia Wilde has confirmed her involvement, revealing new story details and an October start date. Check out what she had to say after the jump!

We've heard about the rumoured title for Tron 3 and the production start date, and now Olivia Wilde has discussed returning to the series five years on from Tron: Legacy. The actress reveals that they've been chipping away at a new instalment since the sequel's release, but the story has been hard to crack. "The delay has only ever been story, finding the right story," she tells Collider. "It hasn't been anything else. There's never been a time where we wanted to go and then schedules got in the way. It's only been like, 'That's not the right story.'" However, in the past year, "the right story kind of came together" and a script materalised (Wilde confirms that she has read it); the interview confirms that she, too, has heard rumblings that filming will commence this October. "You know, there's still a lot to be done before it could actually happen, but the fact that there’s a goal of this year to start is really exciting."

The conclusion of Legacy saw Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) and Wilde's character Quorra enter our world, and Wilde is excited to take her into new territory. "I love this character of Quorra so much and I've built her with [Tron: Legacy director] Joe Kosinski and we took her such a long way from what was written to what we made. I mean, I fought for her to be this kind of androgynous child and that's so not what you typically see in these movies, so I'm so grateful that the producers let me play with her and make her this strange little being. And I'm really excited to see what happens to that character when put into the real world. I think it's an interesting concept. I'm fascinated by all discussions of AI, and especially now today and now with virtual reality becoming something that's like a personal device, I think it’s the time to tell this story." This is the most concrete and satisfying update on the film so far, so here's hoping an official announcement from Disney is on the way. What do you make of Wilde's comments?

I liked the first one.
I'm sure this delay has been beneficial and they can fix some of the problems with the last one.

She is so beautiful, happy she's coming back!

@CherryBomb

Personally, I think she would rock in the X-Men universe. I'd love to see her as Psylocke, Rogue, or even Mystique. Someone on here mentioned Rooney Mara as Mystique, I think that could would be a really cool take too

I don't understand how she's even alive in outside of the game. Dumb ending for sure.

@TheAmericanPatriot - it looks like besides being an important creation inside the "Tron" world she was "Human After All", see what I did there?

I liked the original when it came out in the 80's. But I really think they should go and touch up the original with new F/X. Because to me it just does not hold up very well and is kind of hard to watch now. One of the main things I would like to see done is to darken the suits and redo the light up parts.
